We all agree to the fact that Unforeseen circumstances arise from time to time. Back in my school days, i remember this guy who we knew was a smart kid, but our examinations came and went this same smart kid performed poorly. Why? Then we found out that his suppose father happened not to be his father....total lose of concentration, physically and mentally disorganized......you name it. Now this is just one case. These are lots of other unforeseen circumstances which i think you have got idea about. I have always pondered about a better way of testing a childs knowledge. Thought of this?

I think examinations are a hard pressure on any child through key stages up to A levels; mainly because they are the main focus of all the lessons. Your forced to remember a years worth of information for between 4-10 subjects depending on the subjects. For things like history etc. it's hard to remember dates, places, people and the fiiner ideas of laws, events, battles and wars for one 1hr20min exam, this applies to all areas. I would suggest the exams split into smaller parts that add up at the end of the year or alternatively be coursework based. but apparently guys do better in pressured conditions (statistics) and women better at coursework so they apply a mix. But i think exams drastically affect the student, not only in the actual room but also in the weeks before: loss of sleep, lack of eating, loss of concentration are all popular occurances. It also leads to students drinking and other leisures to get rid of the stress (im not blaming it on exams but the pressure and stress of it does push some kids to rebel). Education is at limbo so we'll see which way it swings in future progressions, sometimes exams are better for the subject- this year they've finally taken coursework out of maths, students found exams easier to handel than coursework. so We'll see, =] happy mylottinng
