Islam Is a Religion of Peace? Fine, but Let's See Some Proof!

By Mary Kate Cary, Thomas Jefferson Street blog This week, President Obama is reaching out to the Muslim world. He's trying to change Muslims' perceptions of the United States, but it's just as important for Muslims to change Americans' perceptions of them. Mainstream Muslims who seek peace were drowned out a long time ago by radical clerics who support jihad. The time has come for reasonable, peace-loving Muslims to step forward. And it's time for the rest of us to listen to them. President Obama spoke to the Turkish National Assembly this morning, and said this about the Muslim faith: I know there have been difficulties these last few years. I know that the trust that binds us has been strained, and I know that strain is shared in many places where the Muslim faith is practiced. Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. In fact, our partnership with the Muslim world is critical in rolling back a fringe ideology that people of all faiths reject. That's the problem: Many Americans, rightly or wrongly, believe that when you're talking about the "people of all faiths" who reject violence and terrorism, you're not including the vast majority of Muslims. President Bush #43 was quoted many times saying that Islam is a religion of peace, but I can't think of any major Muslim leaders who were quoted saying that about their own religion. In fact, I don't think most Americans can name a mainstream Muslim leader, certainly not one calling for an end to violence—thanks to years of radical clerics on the nightly news, screaming into bullhorns about the Great Satan and whipping crowds into a frenzy. A Washington Post-ABC News poll released today reflects this. According to the data, most Americans think President Obama's outreach to the Muslim world is an important goal, but nearly half hold negative views about Islam and a "sizable" number believe that even "mainstream" members of Islam encourage violence against people of other religions. And while a majority of those polled think that Islam is a peaceful religion, a substantial minority—nearly 3 in 10—said they see mainstream Islam as advocating violence against non-Muslims. About half, 48 percent, said they have an unfavorable view of Islam—the highest in polls since late 2001, in the weeks following the September 11 attacks. The data also show that a majority of those polled said they do not have a basic understanding of the Muslim faith, nor do they know anyone who is Muslim. So while part of the problem is lack of understanding on one side, part of the problem is lack of explanation on the other. So it's time for Americans to listen. And it's time for mainstream, peace-loving Muslims to come forward and speak out about their faith, explain their basic teachings and philosophy, and condemn violence against other religions. http://www.usnews.com/blogs/mary-kate-cary/2009/4/6/islam-is-a-religion-of-peace-fine-but-lets-see-some-proof.html?s_cid=rss:opinion-blog:islam-is-a-religion-of-peace-fine-but-lets-see-some-proof

People that dont no what islam is will not understand that unless they have some one around them that is or was a muslim, but worse is that they wont listen. To study the religion is one thing and to live it is another. I have lived with it in Dubai and my first husband. I am a strong believer of all religions and feel they teach youself disapline aswell as strong values for a good life. But more important is not to judge others or try to force your values on others. Peace, manners, values are most important for Everyone. Pick a religion which are all against violence, practice your values and all violence will go away. Love thy neighbor and thy self. This is true for all.

Islam is not just a religion. It is a complete political system, religion and way of life rolled into one. As such, it is incompatible with Western Democracy. Look at the problems in Europe... there are examples everywhere there as tro what happens when Muslims reach a certain population density. They then try to change the legal and political system to be compatible with Sharia from within.

When they come out loudly and publicly condemning the 13,000+ islamic terrorist attacks that have happened SINCE 9/11/2001 I will consider listening to what they have to say. When they stop expecting secular institutions to cater to their religion while not doing the same for others, I will consider listening.

"And while a majority of those polled think that Islam is a peaceful religion, a substantial minority—nearly 3 in 10—said they see mainstream Islam as advocating violence against non-Muslims." This is because even in countries like Kuwait, who we RESCUED from Iraq, 36% of those polled said the 9-11 attacks were justified. That's more than 3 in 10 Muslims right there who think the slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians was justified. It's hard to call someone peaceful who feels that way. In a technical sense, Islam is a peaceful religion. The most powerful and influential Muslim leaders however, are violent, aggressive, xenophobic, and want nothing more than to exterminate those who do not subscribe to their beliefs. Back in medieval times the same could be said about Christianity, but it, and its leaders, have long since evolved. The bible hasn't changed, but the Popes and other Christian leaders sure have. What the peaceful Muslims need to do is freaking stand up and condemn those like Farrakhan, Ahmadinijead, and bin Laden for their actions and rhetoric. Until you do that, nobody will seriously believe that you want peace. Note that here in America those that think a our president is a warmonger don't hesitate a second to shout it from the rooftops, so why can't the anti-war Muslims do the same regarding their leaders?

I know some peaceful Muslim are, I know a few personally, and went to a meeting hosted by a Muslim student at my old college shortly after 9-11. If the majority of Muslims are peaceful than it is their responsibility to elevate those of like minds to more powerful leadership roles to counter the current leaders that I mentioned. The terrorists and Muslim leaders who support them do far more to hurt peaceful Muslims than anyone else. All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

Ha, ha I knew you wouldn't be able to handle that one. The truth hurts doesn't it? You can't even accept the truth when other Muslims hit you right in the face with it? What's the matter, afraid you won't get to have your child bride?

OUR GOALS * to educate Muslims about dangers presented by Islamic religious texts and why Islam must be reformed * to educate non-Muslims about the differences between moderate Muslims and Islamists (a.k.a. Islamic Religious Fanatics, Radical Muslims, Muslim Fundamentalists, Islamic Extremists or Islamofascists) * to educate both Muslims and non-Muslims alike that Moderate Muslims are also targets of Islamic TerrorPlease tell them what those dangers are Your 'MANIFESTO' Has no proof to support it The people of Arabia did not object to this marriage because it never happened in the manner it has been narrated. Obviously, the narrative of the marriage of nine-year-old Ayesha by Hisham ibn `Urwah cannot be held true when it is contradicted by many other reported narratives. Moreover, there is absolutely no reason to accept the narrative of Hisham ibn `Urwah as true when other scholars, including Malik ibn Anas, view his narrative while in Iraq, as unreliable. The quotations from Tabari, Bukhari and Muslim show they contradict each other regarding Ayesha’s age. Furthermore, many of these scholars contradict themselves in their own records. Thus, the narrative of Ayesha’s age at the time of the marriage is not reliable due to the clear contradictions seen in the works of classical scholars of Islam. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason to believe that the information on Ayesha’s age is accepted as true when there are adequate grounds to reject it as myth. Moreover, the Quran rejects the marriage of immature girls and boys The minaret 1999 Peace in Islam 25:63:The worshippers of the All-Merciful are they who tread gently upon the earth, and when the ignorant address them, they reply, "Peace!"28:55, And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say: "To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we do not seek out the ignorant."Quran 5:69 says (Arberry): "Surely they that believe, and those of Jewry, and the Christians, and those Sabeaans, whoso believes in God and the Last Day, and works righteousness--their wage waits them with their Lord, and no fear shall be on them, neither shall they sorrow."In other words, the Quran promises Christians and Jews along with Muslims that if they have faith and works, they need have no fear in the afterlife. It is not saying that non-Muslims go to hell-- quite the opposite. Quran 4:94:. . . Do not say to one who offers you peace, "You are not a believer," seeking the spoils of this life. For God has abundant treasure. You used to be like them, after all, and then God blessed you. you cant even verbally abuse non believers (If you are a muslim) Peace be on ya Prarie Have a gr8 time Njoy Says Mathss

I have been in Muslim and Christian countries, and the only ones that I've been spat at was Muslim country. Is that something to note? I can't think of any time I had interpreted being spat on as a 'peaceful' expression. Maybe I misinterpreted it. Possibly it is a sign of respect in muslim countries. Hhmm. I should start showing my respect for them by spitting on them as well, yeah? I would not want to deprive them of the respect I've been shown similarly.

I have seen people who explained Islam to be a "religion of peace", I have also seen people explain it as being a "sick and violent religion." If the world is any indication, I would have to lean towards the latter. Any belief, religious or not, that brings upon some sort of hysteria is going to have its extremists as well as those individuals who are going to do anything to insist it is a peaceful belief. I think asking for proof is a very honest and logical thing to do. Show me that Islam is peaceful! I know many groups have popped up in the USA of peaceful Muslims, but does a group of peaceful Muslims make the religion itself...peaceful? Are not Muslim extremists STILL, in fact, Muslims? They are only viewed as extreme because they take their normal belief and extend it. They do the work of Allah. I have seen Muslims use their Koran to explain how they are supposed to rid the world of Christians and Jews and the West, and I have also seen them use the same book to insist that Allah is a god of peace. You want to know what is most sad about this picture that the Muslims have painted themselves? Other "peaceful" religions walk in the same path. Christianity is said to be a religion of peace, yet it is equally filled with lies, ignorance, and violence. Much of the past centuries were filled exclusively by religious violence, often from Christianity (but not to forget mentioning, Judaism and Islam). I think Iron Maiden said it best in their song "For the Greater Good of God": "Are you a man of peace or a man of holy war? To many sides to you, don't know which anymore."

Most of the past wars were in defense of Islam, but just as Islam today is trying to distort the reality of the Holocaust, by calling it a "myth", Muslims have also twisted and lied about the truth of the past. Islam isn't even a religion and should be denounced as one. It's an ideology, a complete political and religious system which doesn't work and is a classic example of why our founding fathers stated that we should have separation of church and state in our Constitution. There isn't one single country in the world that is successful where religion is political. Tyrants and dictators rule and live lives of luxury, pretending what they do is for the good of the people, as the people starve...
