Everyday children in the United States are murdered by a parent of caretaker. Children are seriously injured while some are permanently disable every year due to child abuse. Child abuse kills more children in American than does accidental falls, chocking on food, suffocation, or fires in the home. The sad reality is child abuse is severely under reported in the United States. Most abused and neglected children never come to the attention of government officials. Victims almost never speak of their abuse for fear of retaliation from their perpetrator. Even if abuse has been reported, the victim will often deny the offense took place. The main reason children do not speak of their abuse or just flatly deny that their abuse had occurred is due to their lack of comfort within the situation. It is very uncomfortable for a child to accuse a parent of caretaker of abuse or neglect. The child can also feel an intense amount of shame and can become very withdrawn and secretive, in regards to their house.

This is very true. Even if children are severly abused they will allways feel a certain loyalty towards their parents. Some children are also mentally damaged and threatened by their parents not to tell. It is very hard to get your finger on what actually happened as a statement from the victim is very valuable.
It doesn't help either that the statements children make are easily stamped as 'not relevant', 'fantasizing' or 'made up'.

If it is true, it is really said to learn that in the developed and advanced society like that of United States, children are being abused and treated in this way. This is a serious problem and government needs to frame stern laws and transparency in bring such cases on the surface. Neighborhood associations, non-governmental associations and church can play important role in dealing with this problem.
