did y'all hear on the news where they [individual owners] are going to spend millions on upgrading the building. they are going to paint it green now i think that's really important when there are so many homeless, hungry people out here. i may not feel like i should about this upgrade but w/things are bad as thet are you would think they could find better things to do w/their millions. anybody agree or do you disagree w/me?

I understand where you are coming from on this, I do. I look at it a little differently. The Empire State Building is a tourist attraction, millions visit it a year and continue to do so during these tough times. The same can not be said for Broadway shows that are having to close due to low attendence. In tough times people won't justify the high price of a show ticket, but they will come to town and visit the building, go to the observation deck, and feel like they are a part of one of the greatest cities in the world. While visiting, they spend money for lunch, at street venders, a coffee stand etc. The homeless who live in this area have a routine of visiting certain dumpsters for food, or a fresh box to sleep on, what have you. I feel it is important to maintain the homeostasis of the area as best as possible. I tend to want to ask the question; If they divided their millions up equally among the homeless who lived in say a 3 block radius of the building, do you think they would go find themselves affordable housing somewhere in the Bronx? The next day buy an interviewing suit and return to work within the month? It just wont happen that way. Would that they could, there are less jobs for them at the moment. Or they could divide the millions equally among all the homeless shelters in the city providing shelter and food for the cities homeless for how long??? a week, maybe. Or they could invest in improvements to one of the cities icons and do the best they can to continue to entice people to visit, keeping the delis, street vendors, etc. busy with visitors spending and as I said alread, maintain the homeostasis of the area while we all work to pull through this together. Just a different view point. Neither of us are wrong.

Actually, that is a valid point I didn't consider. I am against welfare, period. But I think some of it could be better spent on starting jobs, starting a business that will hire people, as well as fancying this building up. It doesn't need to be completely spent on the building itself.

Yes, I agree with you. Why spend so much money in painting a building. You are right the homeless and hungry people needs is where the millions should rather be spent. The hungry people needs more attention than that building which I think will stand even without painting it green. In today's worsening global economy, I can't understand why so many moneyed people still waste money on senseless endeavors.

I definitely have to agree with what you have said. they do not know what their priorities are and they do not care who is in need.

the rich people spent or invest their millions in a way that they can double up their money. Yes, you're right there are many people who are homeless and hungry as time goes by, and i don't understand why millionaires dont see this situation. Maybe they are only after of their wealth not caring the others. I think one of the best way to share your blessings is to look up and see the reality where there are lots of people suffering because they cant even afford to buy foods for themselves. I think those who are well blessed with food and money should share it especially to the deprived and unfortunate. The millions they spent with the upgrading or renovation of a building can already help millions of people who are suffering from hunger and being homeless.

thanks for your response. i agree w/you. there are too many people who need help. of course the rich guys that own the building can take all repairs off but they can also take off what they do for charity to. they need to get their priorities straight. i would think alot more of them to give it to people who need it. if they got money to burn they can send me some. lol.

Its their money. They can do with it what they want. It would be very honorable of them to contribute the money to something better for the community.. but whatever. At least they chose a good color.

Good morning...I really do NOT have the right to chime in here, as I am Canadian, BUT anytime I see, hear of our Governments blatantly Flashiing OUR tax dollars around, for NO specific constructive project, I cringe! Your government, my government....let's look after the health of the "roots" of our populace, before the aesthetics! Sometime's (lots) I think there should be someone to "watchdog" the government, and projects like this need controls! Cheers!

good morning to you, u have a right to join in any discussion u want to in my opinion. i always enjoy your input. it was my u8nserstanding from what i heard the individual owners were doing it but----- i agree we need a watchdog for the goverment but then u would have a get a watchdog for the watchdog. i just think as bad as times are to be spending millions on a dam! building is ridiculous. i think the populace should come before aesthetics. guess the homeless can stand & stare at the green building. thanks for your response.

I personally was glad to see that the Epire State building was going "green". That means they will be putting less carbon and other nasty things in the air and perhaps help save the planet. All of the large buildings in New York and other cities ought to be doing this. If will don't fix global warming it won't really matter how little or how much help the homes receive. Just a tho.ught Cheers.

Hi antiquelady. I agree with you totally. But rich people don't care about the commom people and the poor people. It is sad and dangerous because it makes people feel revolted about the rich people and it makes the violence. We all have seen what ir means when people can't go to the street without take the risk to be assaulted. The rich people make the problem and we all pay for this. Sometimes I think that millions come together with egoism. Have a good afternoon friend.

Good grief why green sounds a funny colour anyway. Why not stone effect,or even the money could be spent on housing, feeding the poor these politicians want to go hungry for a while and they would change their priorites or even some health care.I totally agree with you there are far more important things to spend the money on.xxxx

guess they think green will impress everybody since everything & everybody is suppose to be going green. while that homeless man or woman is standing there looking at the green building i'm sure it will really take their hunger away. thanks for your response, suzzy. hope ur day is going well.

It's pretty much the same as always. Rich people spending their money on stupid things instead of helping out other people. A lot of them act like not-rich people don't have any meaning, we're like cattle they slaughter when they're hungry. It's very foolish, but isn't that what rich people do best? It's the attitude, "I'm rich, I can do incredibly stupid things but everybody who matters will love me anyway." Putzes.

They do need to build a new building but they should not spend that much on it.You are correct their are a lot of hungry and homeless people in that state they should open a homeless shelter and feed the hunger.
