Yes i think india should have declared earlier but not late on the third day as it would have been of no use because of bad light. But india should gave declared early on day 4. I think dhoni is at fault he would have known about the weather forecast but still didnt take any action to avoid the situation. So much for his proactive thinking. A target of over 600 was never required in the first place it was next to impossible for the kiwis to chase even 500 runs on a pitch that would turn on the fourth and fifth day. I think that is where india missed the trick and paid the price. They still win the series but it could have been an emphatic victory had they won 2-0.

Yes What priatik has said is right too. Why 600? 500 Runs would have been more than sufficient for the relatively lowered New Zealand Team. There it was a mistake and the prize for the mistake was sponsored by the rain god who came to play the rest of the game. lol

i was also very suprised when dhoni declared after having such a huge lead.600+ runs on the fourth and fifth day is almost impossible but possible for teams like australia or south africa or india but not for new zealand.
i think it all got to do with vettori's mindset.he told even before the match started ."we will go for the win even if it means losing the match in the process ".that can always upset any captain.
the guys were down and out and they wont gain much by drawing this match so they would go for the kill and it made dhoni defensive by setting a huge target which rules out any possible win by the kiwis.
there goes captain cool
well done vettori
the kiwis might have drawn the match and lost the series but they won the mind game against the indians

I don't think it was because vettori said such things. The only pressure Dhoni had was that he was going to win a series after 41 years in NZ and he didn't want to put a foot wrong in that test. He had seen his batsman colapsed in first innings and he didn't see his bowlers doing at their best. Remember, India could have asked NZ for follow on, had NZ not added 60+ runs after 7 wickets were down!
Only Zaheer and Bhajji was bowling well. Other thing was that Indian put down too many catches. No captain can win the match if catches, like I. Sharma dropped, are being dropped.
I don't thin Dhoni did anything wrong. I mean at the end, he got 94 overs bowled and they were only 2 deliveries away from win. If rain favoured NZ then be it. They lost the series and that will be hurting them for very long long time. You could see vettori's face. He face was touching the ground!

Many people could say many things but the truth was that India droped to many catches and that was why they couldn't convert their massive performance in 3rd Test. Had O'Brian's catch taken by Ishant Sharma, anything could have happened because we all know Martin can't play that well in dying moments of this test. After all they got 94 over to ball at!
I don't any captain would have given more than 5 sessions to opposition team for chasing targets.
India lost because catches were dropped!

Well, it was not sure that it will rain today. SO indians played safe. There is nothing wrong in it. If Ishant had taken the catch things would have been different. Anyways we won the series so no issues!

According to me, India did the right thing by declaring at the right time. Rain was not in our Hands. India were a bit safe in declaration and nothing is wrong in that. Had Ishant taken that catch, things could have gone different. It is quite unfortunate that the match had drawn but all in the game and the memories of 1967 had been brought back. Cheers!

First thing , about this rain hit final test. India were already 1 -0 up and that made them a bit self complaisant and the drought that hit in the middle that no wicket was falling and the extra 50 tuns that India scored made all the difference. If they were in the 'have to win' mindset they would probably declare when they were with 550 runs leading.
Ok the 41 years scar got erased and a dozen of new records were made and this is a huge achievement by any time Indian Team overseas. A great congratulation.
