I really think that kids today aren't outside playing as much as they used to be. When I was a kid (back in the dark ages) we had no video games, or the ones we had weren't that good. So we played outside all day and just made up games. We used to pretend we were a team of people who went to outer space to go on quests, and I used to always play the villian (dont' know why) but we'd take whiffle ball bats and fight trees and each other. It was fun. I dont' think kids do that anymore.
Though personally, I like to play video games now, because it lets me "play" and because a 33 year old would look pretty silly hitting a tree with a whiffle ball bat.

Well with the market being bombarded with different video games, Kids goin out to play has come down drastically. I think parents should take steps to take kids outdoors, since outdoor games improve your health and stamina!

Yes, i exactly agree with tamil dude's comment. Its now becoming a rare sight to watch the kids come out and play. Most of them have confined to the video/ computer games. This is not at all a healthy sign. Outdoor games not only provides you with physical strength but also it improves the memory power, blood flow and other important aspects. It is ok if a kid plays video/computer games as they are a new form of fun activities. But it must not usurp the time that is being spent by them for outdoor games.

I think it has. I have a 6 year old nephew and all he wants to do is play video games instead of going outside to play.
I play both, and I enjoy playing football outside more then I do playing video games. But don't get me wrong, both are very fun to do!

Well thats the problem. Young Kids not taking to outdoor games is a bad think. I don deny that Video games are fun to play and can be quite addictive but at the same time we need to encourage our kids to go out and play. Cose the physical activity is more important when u r young and parents getting kids video games so tht the kids can leave them to do their job is a bad precedence!

Originality in imagination has been reduced I think. I spent hours outside creating my own adventures as opposed to playing someone else's.

Hi there!
Yes, video games has reduced the amount of children playing outdoor games. I have seen it on my 2 youngest brothers. Even with their friends, rather than play basketball and run outdoors and have exercise they would just spend the day indoors playing NBA PS2 games. I sometimes wonder how they are able to spend the day just sitting hours and hours in front of the TV.
Video games are good but it also has some bad effects on children especially if left without adult's guidance. Sometimes children even spends more time playing videos rather than studying. It's also an expensive game.
But there are also some good about video games. Especially if the whether won't permit playing outdoors. It could also be a good bonding moments with the adults who can't get too tired playing outdoors.
To me the best video game and outdoor game is tennis with Wii console. You get to run even if it's just a video game. You also perspire and get tired just like when playing it outdoors. But of course, outdoor tennis is harder.
Ciao!

According to me, between Video Games and Outdoor Games have a different functions. I can not say that Video games are better than Outdoor games or vice versa. Video Games are suitable for tired refreshing after working and studying. Outdoor games are suitable for everyone who love sports and challenges. Both of them are the appropriate means to develop ingenuity and creativity. Thank you.
