I have never been on a ship. I have been on short cruises.
I was always scared that I would get sea sick if I went for a longer cruise.
Last year I went on a 20 hour cruise on a houseboat - very similar to a ship - and found out that I didnt have any problem. I really enjoyed it. the waters were however calm and everything was smooth.
I wonder if I will get sick in rougher seas and choppy waters.
Do you get sea sick?

I get motion sick in the back seat of cars quite a lot, but the only time I ever was sick on a ship, I went into shock when I was gettin ON the ferry because I have a phobia about grills and grates on the ground and I had to walk across about 20 feet of one.

not on the ferry, I've been on ferries off and on, and longer rides, like from Washington State to Vancover Island
just walking across the grate - and the guy putting the cars on stopped the cars while I walked across (I wish someone had offered to drive me across)

From years and years,i find my feeling is less and less when i`m on short cruises.
Whether this can cure by time?i don`t know.

my first travel by sea, i thought that i won't last even for an hour on board. but to my surprised i did all the way through out the journey.
when i was still a kid, i used to get dizzy even at short distance travel and vomit afterwards. my mom would always carry ointment and lots and lots of candy.

I have been sea sick only once in my life. I was serving in the navy and when my boat went out to sea for the second time I got realy sick. I did not get sick the first time so I realy did not worry about the second time. Their was some medication I was suposed to use but I did not need it the first time we went to see. the second time the seas were very chopy and maybe that was the reason I got sick the second time. I later used the anit-sickness meds and got better alfterwords.

I have never been on the sea. I have only been in canoes or very small boats that were powered by oars, not a motor. I would like to go on a cruise ship on of these years, and when I do, I hope I don't find myself becoming sea sick. I have been told that because they are so large, it feels like you are still on dry land until you are actually looking over the ocean.

I got sea sick on our cruise trip from Alaska to Vancouver and it didn't happen while we were awake looking out at the views around or walking around the ship and enjoying everything. It happened when we were actually laying down at night sleeping. I actually woke up cause the water was so choppy I got so dizzy and couldn't sleep.

I get sea sick when I'm on open, choppy water. I've been on river cruises and been fine, but of course, those are on relatively calm water. On seas and oceans, though, I tend to get pretty ill, so I always make sure to pack extra sea sickness tablets when I'm going to be going on a boat or a cruise. Sometimes sleep helps, if I lay down early enough when my symptoms start, but if I don't catch it early enough, it can be a disaster!

This past October I went on a snorkeling trip in the Red Sea and I did get very sea sick. The boat ride on the way out was about 1.5 hours and the water was very choppy. On the way back the water was calm and I was fine. So as long as the water is not to choppy I am okay.
I also frequently get air sick on long flights. I fly back and forth between Egypt and New York almost twice a year, it is 11 hour flight. Just about every single time I have gotten sick on the plane, it is terrible.

When I was at college I went on a voyage for a week down the river Thames. It was not a holiday and we were expected to do a night watch and learn to do deck duties. As soon as the vessel got out to the open sea I was really sea sick.
I had a salad to eat at a port in Indonesia then I got the ferry to Malaysia. I couldn't stop throwing up on that trip. I stayed ill with sickness and a high temperature for the next week.
The worst sea crossing was a trip to Ireland. The high speed ferry went incredibly slow indeed. I was sick over and over again. The ferry arrived and then all further sailings were canceled. I had to find accommodation in Dublin and stay overnight. A £10 good will voucher made up for that awful trip.
I went on a ferry to the Channel Islands and I didn't see my ex-boyfriend for much of the trip. The waves were high and he spent most of the time in the men's toilets being sick. We got my dog off the ferry which took time so we ended up missing the ferry on to the smaller island. Luckily the sea taxi took us but it was such a rough crossing. At one stage we got rocked off our seats on to the floor.

Hi pitshop! When I was still a college student I had joined NCC that National Cadet Corps and my department was Navy. Once we had a 25 days National Camp at Vizag and there we were taken on ship for 8 hours to and fro and we were advised not to take anything heavy as the sea ( The Bay of Bengle ) was all waves and rolling of the war ship we boarded was rolling.
I saw almost all puking and finally falling flat as they became sea sick and fortunately nothing happened to me and rather enjoyed the sea that too on a war ship. From this I can say that I have no sea sickness.

nah im totally fine when on boats and things, don't get sea sick at all, i don't even get the slightest feeling of it, although i get sick when travelling by car, but that was when i was younger, im totally alright now.
My dad gets sea sick though, so he cannot really come on boats with us and things, thats why we have never been on a cruise and not really planning to because of it.
