What my children have not enjoyed as children

My two kids now are both grown-ups; they are 23 and 26 years old respectively and still living with us, as they are still single. I realized now that there were lots of childhood games we used to play and which my children never experienced. I mean like climbing trees, or a swim in the river, or playing hide and seek, takyan, kayukok (I don't know its English term), taksi, sud-sud, playing mud, roughing it out with friends in the neighborhood, etc. My kids' games are limited only to school time play, but not much with children in our neighborhood. It could be that people were already too preoccupied and too afraid their children might get hurt that they no longer allow their kids to play in the neighborhood. Well, I talk about these games and my kids are just simply fascinated as they have never heard of them. I guess children's games have already evolved; after all this is the 21st century, and we who are in the golden years will only talk about the "good old days" and only have happy memories of our own childhood. What about you, do we share the same observation?

Hello psyche. What we used to play as kids are now quite different from what the kids play nowadays. Different times create different games for people. I still miss a lot the games we used to have and play, which reminds me of those good old days.

Play times have changed over the years. I think it has a lot to do with electronics. Where we played hide/seek or went out in the grove and buildt a fort, now kids are playing on computers, playstations, Wii and gameboys. They have their cell phones and ipods.
I don't think they are less interested in doing things, it's just a cultrual shift of WHAT to do.
I'm with you, we'd get out there run around and just play. No it seems you need a toy to play with instead of making on of your own.
