Fake Amber Alerts and Text Messages

I just recieved the third fake amber alert text message on my phone. This text included a picture of the child and her name. Come to find out this text was blasted by the mothers ex husband back in November. What I can not understand is why someone would do something like this? My daughter ran away for three days and I was out of my mind, sending a text to all her friends probably would have been smart, but the more people send fake ones the less likely anyone will pay attention when it is real!
