I don't think it is normal to happen, if you take the pills on time and don't miss one. I think it is not easy to get pregnant.
So what is your plan now? As you are still a student, how would you face this problem? Have your parents known it yet?

Birth control pill are contraceptives against pregnancy and it really helps to prevent unwanted pregnancy but it depends if you always take your pill as its being prescribed. I am 30 years old now, I am using the pill since 2004 and I have not been pregnant yet. Maybe there are some cases like you but it rarely happens and not to everyone.

Most birth control pills (well the ones we have in the uk) vary in effectiveness but the normal failure rate with perfect use is about 0.04/5% - so pretty low really! One of the most effective methods! "Typical" use - i.e. where people have forgotten to take some, or have had antibiotics, or been sick and therefore didnt get their normal dose can make the failure rate much higher, 8% or more...
I certainly wouldnt say theyre one of the less effective methods - the cap/diaphragm, for example, has a much less effective rate!

Birth control pills are only 99% effective. There is always still a chance that you can get pregnant. The likely hood is just very slim. I had a cousin who was on birth control pills and got pregnant with twins. I wish you the best of luck with your child!
