Lonely Country Road...

If your out driving at night and your car breaks down on a lonely country road in the middle of the night, do you get out of the car and go try to find help or stay in the car and wait for first light? I don’t drive but for the sake of asking, I’d stay in the car, with the doors locked. I’d arm myself with whatever I could find and wait it out. There’s no way I’d go wandering in the dark and no telling what I’d find anyways…maybe some crazed killer. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

It's a 15 minute drive back to the sticks most people say they live out in.

I think I would go looking for some help or shelter as long as I didn't wander off the road! Lets face it if anyone is going to do something nasty to you the windows of a car are not that hard to break and won't stop them and you aren't really much safer in daylight on a lonely country road than you are in the dark! xxx

I would definitely be locking the doors and staying closed in tight. You never know what you can run into even a pack of wild animals. It is never really safe to walk at night like that unless your aware of how the area is at night or know it well, but even then there could be surprises. That is why it is always good to have a cell phone that works in all areas. If a crazed Killer wanted you bad enough no car is going to stop him/her.

I would use my cell phone to call and get my husband or daughter to come to get me. I actually did have this happen when I was younger and there were no cell phones. I walked to get help as it was winter time and I knew that I could not stay there and wait it out.

I would stay put in my car, call someone and wait for help to arrive. You never know who or what is outside. I live in a quiet park of the state, but there's still a chance that some nutcase could be around. Since I work late at night, you can't be too careful.

I'd get out, get my tools out of the back, and fix whatever is wrong with it. Then I would get back in and be on my way. Women are not helpless you know.

I don't usually go out driving at night unless I have somebody with me. However, on the off chance that I might have to make a journey in the middle of the night and my car broke down (heaven forbid), if I had my mobile phone with me, I would phone for roadside assistance. Failing that, I would do as you would. I usually carry a nail kit in my handbag and I would keep the scissors and nail file handy...just in case.

Hi Twoey, I would most likely stay in the car with the doors locked. I would call AAA to come and tow me and my car if needed and I would also call my husband. I would then reach into the back of my seat and get my magna-light flashlight which is similar to what the police carry. It is very heavy, holds 4 D batteries and is very durable. If needed it would make a good hitting weapon and maybe even knock someone out with it. That is why my Mom gave it to me many many years ago when I got my first car. You can never be too careful now a days.

My Hubby has a flashlight like that. I don't know where it is now but it's here somewhere. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

They do make a good weapon if needed, maybe you should have one too. It also is a real good flashlight LOL.

It has happened to me before. I am not very patient and I got out and walked to find help. Then this man stopped his car in front of me. He asked me what I was doing in the middle of the night by myself. He was angry. Worried angry. I looked in the car and figured he was all right. I have a pretty good sense of people. (though when I am wrong, I am wrong!) He was a car mechanic, and a Turkish man too. I was in Holland at that time.He told me to get in the car, and I did. We drove backwards to my car. He looked at my car and found I needed water. He ordered me to get in the car and lock the doors. He would be back soon. So I figured I would wait. He came back 20 minutes later. I wanted to pay him for his help. He did not want my money. He followed me a little while and then waved as he left. It was as if he were an angle send to help me. I never seen this man before or later. I was very grateful! So happy someone was there to help me. Okay I know what you are all thinking. And of course you are right. What I did was dangerous. I was lucky. And I don't expect others to just trust everyone that comes along. But somehow I just new it was all right. Take care.

more as a preference for not getting lost, hurt or running into wild animals than fear of like a serial killer.

My fiance and I live out in the country. If we were to break down then we'd have to either do one of two things. It's close to my cousins house we'd have to walk to his house as no cell reception down there. Now if it's close to ours, we'd call his parents or we'd just walk depending on what time of night it is and how close we were. It's safe where we are so I don't think we'd have a problem. We wouldn't go through the woods though as animals are lurking.

I'd call my husband or someone from my cell phone, put my handgun on my lap and wait for someone to show up. I don't really feel that I live in a dangerous area down here in south Florida but I also never take chances so I wouldn't trust anyone other than someone I know.

Well, I would do exactly as you..Lock the doors, find anything that could be used as a weapon, and wait it out..Even in daylight I would be nervous. Unless I listened to what my mom used to tease me with when I was younger and afraid to walk at night..(it would be bad advise now)..She used to say..dont worry, if anybody kidnaps you, they will drop you under the first lamp post!!! She was just kidding..I hope!

neither you get on your cell phone and call someone to come get you if you are not from the area then you definately stay in your vehicle (there are animals out there in the night) around here I would be more worried about coyotes and rattlesnakes than I would some crazy killer

The dame thing I will do if it happened to me. It is h=just a crazy thing to go out and ask help in the middle of the night where all people are in their night slumber? who can help you? Just stay in the car and wait for the day light before going out and ask help. that is the best option.

I would be horrified if this happened to me - I'd probably cry. I'd definitely panic and go into a cold sweat. I'd probably lock everything up and hope morning came before anyone bad came along. A few years ago one of my daughters drove (by herself) over 4000 kms to take up her military posting - I was terrified, as she was travelling through the outback in the Northern Territory where there have been some pretty horrific things happen to people. I bought a mobile phone and told her she'd have to text me at every break - and especially at night, so I'd know she was safely in a motel until morning. I'm a very chickenhearted person, and wouldn't venture too far in a car by myself at all.

i will go out , and lock the car. have a rest in other place. because someone just want to steal the car, if they don't find person in the car, they will don't hurt you. i think the ilfe is more important than car. so i leave the car to other place hide myself.

I would probly go and get help even at night. I jsut do not like sitting out in my car all night. I would walk to the nearest payphone or hotel or any business and get assitance. I an not afiad to walk down the road by myself.
