I have been on one vacation and I rode a bus. That was years ago.I live near the east coast and it took 3 days to get to California. We are planning a trip that is far away for hopefully later this year. And we were thinking that we might take a train because I had never been on one.I was not sure if my daughter would be able to be patient enough riding for that long.We took a short trip yesterday on a train to check it out. That was the first time riding on a train for the both of us.We loved it and plan to use that as our method of transportation for our vacation.
What method of transportation for a long trip do you prefer?

I have flown across the country, I have also been on a road trip across the country. taking a car trip was lots of fun, we could go where we wanted and see stuff on the way there and on the way back. I have never taken a long train trip. My mom took one across the country, she said it was rough. If its possible get a sleeping berth, that way you can get some rest and lay down and sleep. It does sound like a lot of fun. Where did you go on your short trip?

I will not fly.In a plane too i cannot see anything. In a train you can.if I drive, yes I can stop, but won't get much rest.We will get a berth if we can afford it.The seats were comfy thou.We were told that we can bring a pillow and a blanket. It was fun even thou it was short.

if i am going to take a long trip somewhere, I prefer to fly, not necessarily because it's a faster way to get there, but because I don't get to fly that often, so when I have the opportunity to fly, I'll take it. I absolutely love flying, especially if I can get a cheap ticket. LOL

Well, the method of transportation that I like for a long distance is airplane.. that is my first option but since plae tickets are too expensive, I would choose boat as a second option because in the boat you can sleep soundly, you can relax for there are lots of entertainment in there and you ca have sight seeing, there is a food serve it is like your home. I feel comfortable riding a boat. Bus is the 3rd option. But by bus, it is tiring, you are just sitting for the whole trip. You can not go aorund, you can not lie down and it is hard. I have never experience riding a train yet for long distance. Only a light rail transit which is only an hour or 30 minutes far. good luck to your planned vacation.

We usually drive even for long trips but I have taken a train from Maryland to Connecticut in the past. I like taking the train better then driving. We recently drove from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. That wasn't too bad except that we had our then 8 month old and 2 1/2 year old with us. They did not enjoy the trip.

Hey I really love the whole train-riding experience. Most of the time when I go back home for a vist, I ride the train. You can eat, sleep, drink, and even get up and walk around if that's what you want to do. Not to mention, sometimes I meet some really interesting people on my train rides. I don't have to pay so much attention to the roads and driving safety when I'm on the train. I can really just sit back and enjoy the experience a little more, know what I mean? And if you get bored, just try some puzzles, games, and books for your daughter. Ahppy traveling!

It must have been exciting for you to go on a train for the first time. I wonder if you would like to go on a plane one day. The train is my favorite method of traveling and a plane is good for me sometimes. In the day when on a train I enjoy looking out of the window. During the night I can sleep in a comfortable compartment. A plane can go long haul and it is a quick method of traveling. I go on buses in my local area and the service is poor. For a trip to the other side of the world I like to fly but for a shorter trip within Europe I enjoy traveling by train.

usually bus.
i really haven't taken trains much, just once to boston and then the local T.
i don't particularily care for flying..that's an "if i have to" type thing.
wow, three days to cali is quick.a lot of times it's 5.
i guess it depends on how many expresses are on the tickets.

I've never been on anything other than a plane in the way of mass trans. Growing up I flew about four times a year to Neveda to visit my mom. When I became an adult I drove out there a few times, it takes about 32 hours of driving to get there from Ohio, I don't know how long it takes to get there when you drive the speed limit

We took our first real vacation trip last summer. We were wanting to travel from Pa to WI. we were first thinking about flying but after looking at how much it would cost we started looking at other alternatives, we knew we wouldn't to take a bus because we were not wanting to have layovers or be switching over to a bunch of different buses. My mother in law suggested Amtrak..after looking at the prices we thought well that might be fun. We have been on our local train here but never anything like that or for that long.
We had to board the train at 2am and it took about 9 hours to get there. To be honest it really wasn't that bad..the only problem we seemed to have was traveling throughout the train. It was a little difficult with going that late at night because a lot of people were sleeping and we stretched out in their seats to where their heads or legs were hanging out into the isles. It was also a little difficult trying to use the restroom with all of that shaking back and forth.
I think with the cost of a plane ride now a days that a train is a good way to go in fact when we go out again this year we are planning to take the train again.
