When did you had your first eye glasses?

I had mine last year when I turned 41. I was advised to wear one when I turned 40 when I had my check up because I started to feel something glaring at times. I just ignored it until I came here last year and my husband told me to use one so I won't be straining my eyes. it was some kind of uneasy at first but I found it really convenient when reading. I only used it when reading tho. How about you, when did you have your first eye glasses and are you still wearing one?

It is indeed annoying; I didn't even wore mine immediately and wasn't wearing them even I was advised to because of the discomfort I felt but I was thinking (and also my husband really prompted me to wearthem) that it helps a lot so not to strain my eyes when reading. Well it's good that you feel comfortable wearing lenses. The bottom line anyway is to protect and helps our eyes. Thanks for the response.

I think I was around 8 or 9 when I was prescribed my first pair of reading glasses. At that time I really wanted glasses really bad so I think I faked not being able to read the letters just to get the glasses. I was diagnosed as being far sighted and had to wear them only for reading. Then later when I was in my teens I took the test for real and had 20/20 vision. Then later in life I actually had opposite stigmatisms (where one eye is near and one eye is far) .. so I guess I didn't have to fake it from the get go. I always wondered if wearing glasses that I really didn't need back when I was a child actually affected my current vision now.

Yours is quite different and quite opposite from the rest of us; while most people are trying to do away wearing glasses even they were advised to, you did the opposite by faking to have eye problems just to get a pair of them. I wonder if you didn't went to any fights w/ kids teasing you of wearing them before. Well I guess you have to get a check up to determine what's the exact condition of your eyes and what fits them best. Thanks for the response, happy mylotting!

No I haven't tried wearing contact lenses; am a little scared of the idea of it being inserted in the eyes like my friend had. And besides, I guess it's more expensive too. From what you have said I guess it's still best for you to wear glasses if you find it difficult to read words. It maybe odd and uncomfortable but it helps not to strain your eyes. I felt the same before but I still value my eyes as they are very important so I wear glassses but only for reading. Thaks for the response.

I've been wearing glasses my whole life almost. I got my first glasses when I was nine. I am now thirty-three. I hated the fact that I had to wear them, but I got used to them pretty quickly. I don't like my glasses all that much. I wish I had contacts but my insurance won't pay for them and I don't want to shell out the 200 dollars they would cost.

Oh sorry to hear that you seem to have some eye problems at a very early age. But at least you're already used wearing your glasses by now. Mine is still a little discomfort as I rarely wear them. Maybe it's just the feeling or some thoughts of getting very old (sometimes I just don't like to think that am already wearing some) but yes it helps a lot when reading; that's the benifit of it. Thanks for the response.

my glasses, I really don't have much choice except to wear them. My eyes hurt and I get headaches if I don't. I remember when I broke them and checked my email without them, my eyes hurt for hours. They are a life necessity, but I guess I am used to that by now.

Well that's not very early for wearing glassses tho, I have known people younger than you who already wore them even at age 7. I assume you are still wearing yours up to now. Thanks for the response.

Good to hear you're not wearing any glasses at all; that means you don't have problems w/ your eyes. However I felt sorry for your neice; she seems helpless w/o any glasses. Well there are really some discomforts in wearing one like what she has w/ her nose but anyway wearing then helps a lot for improving her eyesight am sure. Thanks for the response.

i had my first eye glasses when i was 13 years old, the funny thing was my parents didn't believe me when i told them that my vision was starting to get blurry. They thought that i was just envious of my sister who had glasses that time. i convinced my dad to let me see an opthalmologist and to their surprise, i had a grade of 150 on both eyes.

Well that's pretty early for one to have some eye sight problem but I guess there are even people younger then you who already have poor eye sights and has to wqear their glasses at a very early age. And I don't think wearing glasses for fashion is sane; in fact a lot of people (including me) don't like to wear glassses even if it's required and advised for fear of being teased. Thanks for the response.

I did and felt the same; feleing odd when wearing glasses and wasn't been very compliant when I was been told to wear one when I had my first check up. But I did wore them later because I really felt the need to do so as they help for my eye sight. I only wear mine when reading and it's very seldom, only when reading books and magazines but other than that I can do things w/o them. Thanks for the response.

I have my first glasses when I was in junior school, and I was 13 years old.At that time,I just whached too much TV at a unreasonable close distance and was indulged in eleltrical game, which makes my eyes become poor and I was not able to recognize the words on the blackboard.I remembered that my dad brought me to take glasses for me.Surprisingly,my condition was bad and at first the degree of my glasses was quite high(more than 350degree).Fortunately,the glasses helped me see the world clearly and I did not drop behind in my study. Now I have glasses more than 10 years and my degree have increased to more than 600 degree. You know,I can not leave the glasses now.

Sorry to hear that and yes, it's quite an odd wearing glasses at early age. Well sometimes it's our fault (and our parents' too) for letting their kids be exposed in computers, tv and electrical games that harms the eye sights for constant and closer contacts w/ these devices. I personally blamed myself for too much exposure w/ the computers few years ago; it really made my eyes glaring and fuzzy at times and I oticed that from there on I had bad sight condition that made me wear glasses. Thanks for the response.

Hey,friend.I have been wore glasses for 6 years since I was in middle school. It is inconvenient for me in daily life I think.I always forget where I put it after I put off it.Sometimes I put it on the bed, then I will sit on it carelessly.I have destroyed several glasses due to carelessness. And now I'm still wearing glasses.

Hmnnnn you seem to have much problems w/ your carelessness than w/ your eye sights....hehehee. Well at least you are still wearing them and don't have any problem w/ it. I find it a little odd at first and still feeling a little this time. I only wear mine exclusively for reading. Thanks for the response.

I don't think it's very early to have one; I have known people younger than you when they have first used glasses because of some eye problems and there were even those who are already using glasses as early as 7. Yes we don't really have a choice sometimes; we have to wear them or we will be suffering for more worse eye sight condition. Thanks for the response.

I had my first eye glasses when I was 14 yrs old. Actually it was one of the eye glasses that my mom have used before (the size/shape is like a sunglasses super big for me) but when i used/wear it,i notices that i can see more clearly than before. Then when I mentioned it to my mom she said that I should go see an optalmologist to check my eyes. At first it was just fine because I can see more clearly but as the years go by my eyes grade have been increasing. As soon as i wake up in the morning the first thing that I do is wear my eye glasses. I am so helpless without it... But the good news about it, is my eyes are protected in sore eyes and the like during summertime. I was advised to have a check up on my eyes every 6months and with that span my eyes grade was enormously increasing for about 25, so in one year at least an increase of 50 on my glasses. Normal I change my glasses when its grade have increase to 50 because my doctor said that the 25 is within the normal range. I have to change my glasses for my eyes not to be stress (having difficulties in reading clearly because I cant see things/people clearly).

Sorry to hear that, I know how it feels when one has serious eye problems since our eyes are one of the most important parts of our body. I really feel sorry when I hear people say they are helpless w/o any glasses to wear; that means it's some kind of serious eye problems and it letirally hinders one from doing a lot of things. I hope your problem can be adressed very soon and I also hope that you are taking foods that are rich in vitamin A. Food supplements for the eyes may also help. Thanks for the response.

I've been wearing eyeglasses since I was 12, and yes, I'm still wearing one. But I wear contact lens at special occasions.
I'm nearsighted, so I'm most comfortable when I wear eyeglasses to see things. Otherwise, things and people are blurry to me.

Oh good to hear that you have a perfect grade of eyesight by now, I guess it really helped when you wore your glasses before. Yes it really strained your eyes when you don't wear one and you are supposedly have to. If you feel some strain by now I guess you have to think of wearing them again. Thanks for the response, happy mylotting!

Well at least you didn't wear it at very early age like some people do. Yes glasses really help in most eye problems so if it's ok and comfortable for you keep doing it. I hope I can do that too, but I only wear mine very rarely just mostly for reading and only once a week in the church. Thanks for the response.

I think I started to wear glasses when I was 17. I noticed that I can't see the things that is far from me. I'm nearsighted at times when I'm was in shcool I couldn't read what's the lecture on the whiteboard. I decided to go to the optometrist to resolve the problem with my eyes. Sometimes it is uncomfortable to wear it is bothering me all the time. I think I inherited my weak vision to my mother she is farsighted.

Sorry to hear that bvut I guess there are people who are much younger than you were when having their eyesight problems and started wearing eye glasses at very early ages like 7 or 10. W/ mine am a little thankful I have started to use them when am 40 w/c I guess is just the normal stage when eyesights starts to get a little fuzzy and blurred. Am still feeling uncomfortable wearing mine at times and I only wear them exclusively for reading and only once a week. It realy helps tho. Thanks for the response.
