Red Slider Turtles

I did not see any other areas I could post this, so I chose this one. I'm getting my son a red slider turtle for his birthday. Are they good pets? I have always loved turltes but have newver had a tame one as a pet.
When I was growing up I would take one out tof the wild and keep it for a week then turn it lose. As I turned older I realized that taking them from the wild was cruel. So I want get a tame one and from what I have read slidders make good pets. What do you?

I had purchased a baby, red slider turtle for my nieces and nephews when they were much younger. After purchasing it, I heard that they were illegal to own in California. I do not know if that is true or not. We had a lot of fun with the turtle. He was the size of a quarter.

Hi! I wonder what acquatic turtles eat. Mines just woke up after a tough winter season and now they're very hungry. What do give to them?
