Well winter is almost over..lets hope anyway... Now that we have a few good days of nice weather here and there, our roads are taking a toll!!! There have been a few "pot holes" that have been opening up that you could lose your car in....so of course around here summer means "road construction season"... and they are going to have there work cut out for them.... How are your roads?

My first answer would be: "There are no roads". I live in a country with virtually no highways. Literally. There are only about 200 km (about 125 miles) of highway in Romania, and most of the roads in the country are terrible. Only the national roads and some of the county roads are good, but to really get where you need to, you have to cross through hell, or wait for hours. Many, many hours. To make an idea of what I'm talking about, there is a new highway "under construction". They managed to build 5 km (that's a bit over 3 miles) of highway in 4 years...

The thing is the main road network is in very good condition, but when it comes to the secondary roads, branching from the main network and leading to the smaller cities, the difference is huge. For example, my home village is located about 70 miles from the capital city. To go there by car, one has to take a European road, in excellent condition (but still not a highway, it crosses villages and has normal speed limitation), that branches into a national road, still in good condition. But when it comes to the last 5 miles, that can barely be considered a road. It crosses some villages and the cereal crops between the villages and it consist of a path that cars and wagons use to take, represented by nothing else than hard ground that turns into mud and water pools when it rains heavily... Good luck in trying to pass through that without a full traction vehicle or a tractor! Thank God I usually travel by train!

our roads look like they've been shelled.but then, they pretty much always look like that.i'll be damned if i know what the state does with the road money. we had a guy who planted a tree in a pothole to prove a point.

Our roads are horrible and really bad for the tires. The road crews here have already started work which is a pain as well because they are working all over the city and many detours and traffic delays. Nothing we can do about it...it has to get done. At least here they print in the paper the areas where work is being done so if you read and plan, you can allow time or plan to go a different route before getting caught up in the traffic delays.

Same here - pot holes! Then they repair them here in the summer too and put a great big sign up that is supposed to make us happy - "Sorry for any delays - we are working for YOU" - which is fine if they are actually working. Is coffee break to be considered as work and do we have to stop each side of the roadworks on red and green lights while they take their break?

It certainly doesn't! Mine is old and it shows but I am not buying a new one to leave it out on the road and then have to manouvre it round all those obstacles

I live in North GA and we really never have pot holes. The county usually does a good job with keeping them smooth. I have heard some stories from up north and I cannot imagine the damage they would do to your car. I guess that you are always on the lookout huh?

Yes we are!! It is dangerous on the roads some days if you are in a hurry and not paying attention, there have been many who lose tires on our pot holes, they are very bad....the other day on the news someone put a refridgerator box in one to show how deep it was and to help other drivers avoid it.... its good that you have good roads.... I may look into relocating.... thanks for the response.

the roads are pretty well, arent rough and we do not have winter but the summer's heat is great and the wet roads during rainy season makes the road slippery but still everyhing is fine..

In the city I live in, the County Road Crew does an excellent job with road care especially during the winter months. No pot holes that are bad around my neighborhood. Now 14 miles South in Minneapolis, I've hit quite a few that rattled my brains etc. Luckily no damage to the suspension or on the aligh=nment. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Lets hope they do fix them soon!!! I actually saw on the news the other day a pot hole/sink hole that they put a refridgerator box in it to show how deep it was and to let cars have to swerve to miss the hole... thanks for the response.

to tell the truth i haven't been around in days! i am sure that there are plenty of potholes. we live in a busy area with lots of traffic. it seems in some places they have been doing construction on the roads forever. one area that i can think of they are repairing an overpass and it started last summer and they are still half done. by the time they finish it will be a year that they started it. it is crazy! they always work on this stuff at rush hour yet!

oh yeah....and they start working on the roads earlier every year and working longer through the year too...so it is a longer construction season and yet the roads are still not great!! thanks for the response.
