Never in my life did I think Americans would ever praise Fidel Castro, but now they have. One congresswoman even went so far as to say Cubans have it better than some of the poorest people over here! Aren't people educated anymore about communism in our schools? Those congresspeople were fooled, pure and simple, set up just like bowling pins. If it's so great in Cuba, how come the buildings are crumbling? How come they're driving 1950's cars?

I once knew a girl who was smuggled in a suitcase to the states as a baby. If Cuba was so great, I doubt her mother would have handed her so easy to the person who brought her over.

I've heard many people from Cuba who fled here say that we're on the same path and they are frightened. I wish people would listen to them! Russian-Americans are saying the same thing. Why don't people vote out these idiots?

IF Cuba is so great how many people are risking thier life to get into the country? You measure the Greatness of a country by the number of people trying to get in.
I will donate to a fund to relocat those congressmen and women who want to leave the US and take up ubian citizenship.

Yeah, and one of them, Bobby Rush, is an ex-black panther! Wow, what an authority! I feel sorry for you, Arkie, I really do. Communism is evil. It doesn't help people, it destroys them. You want everybody to be the same, but the truth is, even in communist countries there are the haves and the have nots. Castro is a thug and a murderer; he tortures people; he is a dictator, and I cannot believe that the country I love wants to go down this path. Communism is a failure. It keeps people down in the dirt, and gives them no hope. I guess if you want people to live like rats under a dictator's heel, this is how you feel, and nothing I say is going to change your mind.

Here's a question for you then Arkie, why aren't any Cubans on mylot defending him? Where are the Cubans on mylot? We have people all over the world on this forum, yet no Cubans. Why is Castro using the military to keep his power there? If he's so great, wouldn't the people be more than happy to reelect him? Why is it that when he stepped down he put his brother in charge? Couldn't he have given his people the "freedom" to elect a successor?
Here in the US when a leader does a good job he is reelected. Roosevelt got reelected several times and 3 of our last 4 presidents got reelected after their first term.
Paint it however you like, the guy is nothing more than a tyrant and a dictator. The fact that his country hasn't collapsed doesn't mean he's doing a good job. If that's your criteria I guess dictators like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini were doing a fine job.

Fort,
Hold on just a minute. All the people in Cuba are not against Castro. The lower class people have it better now than they ever have. It's the people with the get rich quick schemes that are doing most of the complaining. Casto isn't against people bettering themselves but He insists they do it by the rules. What's wrong with everyone having the same chance at the brass ring? The rich in the US are the ones keeping the working people under their heels. This is exactly what Castro eliminated. When Castro took over Cuba the American people though of him as the savior of Cuba. That is until he starting putting pressure on the rich Americans in Cuba. From that point on we have been fed a steady diet of half truths and outright hog wash concerning Castro. All the US has done in the past 50 years is hurt a bunch of hard working people that didn't deserve it. Personally I think it's high time we started helping the Cuban people instead of hurting them.

"One congresswoman even went so far as to say Cubans have it better than some of the poorest people over here! "
Yes, because every poor person would love to spend 2/3 of their income on rationed food alone.
Where exactly did you get this tidbit of news?

Do you know why our government became so hard against Castro when he first took charge of Cuba? I can tell you exactly. When Castro came into power there were a large number of huge sugar plantations in Cuba. These plantations were mostly owned by rich Americans. They were working the poor Cubans for next to nothing and making them rent shacks to live in on the plantation. They charged them rent on the shack that came out of their pay. A lot of them also had their own stores on the plantations and forced their workers to buy at their stores. A lot of them paif the workers in scrip that was only good at their stores.
When Castro took over the first thing he did was throw all the rich Americans out of Cuba and split up their plantations and gave them to the poor working people. The working people took small places and went right on producing the sugar crops. Castro gave them enough land they could make a good living on it. This is why our government has tried everything in their power to starve Cubans. Did you know that a child education all the way from K through a PhD is paid for by the Cuban government?
I was in the Army with a young man that his Father owned one of these big Plantations and he told me all about it. Him and his family were forced to leave Cuba and leave everything they owned there. Of course he saw it as a raw deal but I saw it as justice.

You call that justice? I don't. Castro is a murderer. Look it up on Wikipedia. People like you are scary.

Fort, To heck with WIKI get you a history book and look it up. A Cuban History Book.
Rock, Sure there were some rich Cubans that were cheating the workers and they got the same treatment as the others. A lot of people do a lot of talking about Cuba that simply don't know what they are talking about. The real story is quiet different than what we get here in the US. A large percentage of the Cubans that come up here are trying to escape Cuban law. We had a whole Army camp full of them a few years ago that Castro kicked out of his country. (Ft Chaffee, Ar.)

Beware of Hollywood too! There are many stars speaking out in favor or Castro! Sean Penn is a big example! Makes you wonder about what we have been teaching our kids in school. I think the last generation really dropped the ball in educating our children about what our Freedom is really all about!!

If I was doing what the plantation owners were in Cuba Obama would have every right to. That is exactly what needs to happen to a bunch of the big money people in the US right now. They are the ones that has put us in this mess with our economy. Rock I'm 70 years old and I was around when Castro took over I remember it well. Castro was forced to turn to Russia for help because of the way the US was treating the Cubans. I'm American like you are but the truth is the truth and you can't change that. The American People have been fed a crock concerning Cuba.
