Well, snakes are considered with respect in some religion and scared in some religions.Let us not go deep into religious faiths. There are people who like to play with snakes. They just enjoy the feeling of the snake on their body. And for some others, they jump as they see a snake and run away from the scene. What about you?

Hi ganesh!
Well I am certainly afraid of snakes. I hope every one is except the workers what do we call to the national geographic, animal planet workers etc...
But I don't have any oppositions to them. I wish I could play with them...Not only snakes but also with lions, tigers lol...Only if they could understand hehe...Well this is only the imaginary thing but would be nice if it was real...
Well if I am alone and see a snake then I would certainly run off...But if there are people looking at a snake then I don't need to feel scared and run off. Last week I had seen a snake in the field and some people were looking at it, so I also went to give a look at it...
Happy mylotting...

The snake was a smaller one, about 1 feet or shorter than that. Yes, that was alive, we were a bit far from that snake...Cheers...Happy mylotting...

Oh yes, I am afraid of snakes. Even just seeing tiny worms I get scared already. I can stand seeing snakes in cages but those crawling freely or not in cages, I will run as far as I can hehe.
One time I went home and found a tiny snake at my kitchen when I turned on my lights. Immediately I ran away towards the door and called my relatives for help. (Now this is a bit funny) My uncles came with a bunch of guys from the neighborhood carrying a paddle and a bat. Someone even had a net. Everyone was so ready to catch the snake until they say how tiny it was. It's just about 6inches long hehe. Everyone just scratch their heads in dismay. They thought they're going to see a huge snake. But mind you, they had a hard time catching the tiny poor thing when it started to crawl. It went under my kitchen appliances and they had to move the fridge and stove just to catch it. Don't know what they did to the snake but I had it taken away.
That's my experience with a snake. Ciao!

I've not had much experience with snakes. There was a king snake that came into the neighborhood once and on rare occasions I see a garden snake, but for the most part they're either not where I live or are well hidden. The most amazing snake I ever saw was a python at the London Zoo. It was huge.

I didn't do anything to or with the snake, but some of the boys in the neighborhood killed it. I don't know why they did that. I don't think the snake was dangerous, but I'm not sure about that.

We all have good experiences watching snakes in a zoo.Only rarely they come into our nearest vicinity where they are not supposed to be.And people are frightened to see it and want to get rid of them. What did you do when you saw the king snake in your neighborhood?

It has nothing to do with religion but I don't like snakes and never did. I grew up in a place where there were plenty of them . I think it's because they are so sneaky. If I know where they are then I'm ok with them. It's when they sneak up on me that gives me the creeps.

I grew up in central Italy where we were farmers and there were lots of snakes there. But now I live in Canada where we only see the occasional snake.

It seems you lived with snakes with great tolerance.Where do you live?Is that area a habitat of snakes.I just can't imagine living around with snakes. You are really brave with your statement.Comfortable if you know where they are and mind only if creeps on.Hats off!

I know I am in the minority here, but I am a herpetologist (herpetology = study of reptiles and amphibians), so I LOVE SNAKES!! :)
I used to have several as pets, but not for the past several years. I have caught many wild snakes as part of my job as a wildlife biologist. They are normally capture and release situations.
I do not agree with all of these people that think that they need to kill snakes. Trust me, the snake wants nothing to do with you. If you just take a large step back or go around it, it will be on its way. If it is a venomous snake, it wants to save that venom for its prey. It would rather not waste it on you.
I know you said not to go into religion here, but I truly believe many people's fear of snakes stems from religion; i.e. the devil taking the form of a serpent. However, snakes are part of this world and belong in it just as much as we do. Besides, rats and other mammalian vermin would run rampant without snakes. My grandfather was a farmer in Texas. When he saw a rat snake in his barn, he would leave it there. He didn't have many rats or mice in that barn eating his grain for the cattle either!
Snakes are awesome in their own right! Just because they don't have fur or feathers does not mean they need to die. Same goes for the venomous varieties. Just because they carry a deadly bite does not been they want to bite you! I've caught many venomous snakes in my career, and I have yet to be bitten. It is all about respect for the animal and safety in handling.
So, long story short, yes, I like snakes. LOL

So do women, of which I am one. I know many women herpetologists. But yes, your comment is the same for both sexes: you tend not to fear things as much once you have more knowledge of them.

Well, yes I am afraid of snakes but not as much as my wife is. She is so much afraid of snakes that if she sees a snake charmer on her way, she goes back or change her route altogether. If you bring a snake near her she would simply scream and ultimately faint. I am not that scared only, I can't touch or play with snakes.

Hello srganesh! I am very much afraid of snakes. For me, they are unpredictable and would bite me anytime. I just can't understand the feeling when I see it.
There was one time when my boardmate saw a snake outside the bathroom outside the boarding house. I feel really scared and very careful. I plan to transfer boarding house either. I won't be peaceful knowing there's a snake over here.

Yes, I am very much afraid of snakes. I am so curious to watch 'Discovery' channel shows dealing with snakes. I don't know how people behave so close to snakes without fear. I don't want to risk my life being close to snakes. I like snakes, but I am too scared of them.
Thanks for responding to my discussion.

Yes, snakes are the no. 1 thing I am afraid of. I can kind of manage other things like cocroaches, spiders, ants, mosquitoes, etc. I can't handle snakes. When I was a kid my mom took me to a temple. There were small statues of snakes. People are supposed to touch it and put the hand on our heart.
I was very scared to touch the snakes. My mom asked me to touch the sankes and get the blessing, but my hand didn't move. At last my mom took my hand and made me touch the snakes. I will never forget this in my life.

Less scared of them than a lot of bugs...snakes don't scare me but if i found a random one hanging around it probably would Being a christian I know we as human beings have an intense fear of snakes we are born with but I think that can be behaviorally modified and the fear varies.

Oh! the thought of playing with snakes sound creepy. I can feel somehting crawling right under my feet now (ewe!).
But i know a young kid who goes snake hunting. He is in is 12th standard in school and hails from an affluent family. I just gave you a breif intro about him to say that snake catching is not his profession but favorite hobby.
Some say that he is bold but i believe he is simply torturing those creatures. I simply rinaway as soon as i see him :)

Like most people do i am afraid of snakes. I am afraid being bitten by eat and I have heard a lot of stories that snakes do have venom and one will die if the venom goes into the blood. Another thing that i don't want to touch it because of its skin it is quite slippery. I am just wondering how those family who have a snake as a pet feel that a snake is living with them.

Only some people can take snakes as pets.Especially their slippery skin and the way they move all makes us afraid of.And sure, only some snakes are poisonous and we are not expected to have an idea about all snakes. So,run away is the first wise idea.Cheers!

I am not afraid of snakes. This is a good thing since my kids got a corn snake from their father for Christmas this past year. Even though they do alot of the chores that come along with it...there have been times that I have to help them. He is still quite small, only about 2 feet long but he is still a snake. He just started being able to eat live mice and the kids get a real kick out of it, go figure.

im not afraid of snakes, theres a saying, that if you confront a snake and its gets away, that snake will come back for you until the battle is over, meaning: one of you has to go, either the snake or the person, so to make sure none of this happens, dont attack the snake, if you do, finish him off. this applies to the much smaller breeds of snakes, not snakes such as anacondas, ive never experimented with those

No I'm not afraid of snakes and my family has owned probably about six or seven snakes throughout the years. I really like all animals because they don't judge you or have many of the flaws that a lot of humans do. A lot of pets will provide you with valuable companionship and a friend.

Definately afraid! I especially hate thinking about how they shed their skin every time I see one. Once I saw a show about snakes and one of them had ticks in between its scales. I get goosebumps just thinking about it and I dont understand how some people like them as pets.
