Are wearing sunglasses a fashion or necessity?

Are Sunglasses are generally worn to protect oneself from the harmful ultravoilet rays of the sun or is it a mere fashion to create that much need first hand impression to the surroundings?

I've been seeing a lot of people who are wearing sunglasses for the sake of fashion.. but for me? i'm wearing it to protect my eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun..

Hi,
Yes i wear it mostly for ptotecting my eyes from the sun rays. I also wear a cap to protect my head. Well i have a very stylish shade of fast track and u can call it very fashionable as well.
In this hot whether a cap and a sunglass is a must for me as i have to travel a lot.

It's nice to see, 1st discussion of a person one his/ger user id.. Lol..
Well for me it's just to protect not for fashion.. But most of the people use them for fashion purpose and feel no harm in that..It's there choice what they want to do and if you are getting your eyes safe then it's double benifit...
