There are so many risk factors involved in the development of diabetes in children:
1. being overweight
2. family history of diabetes
3. female gender
4. ethinicity like American-Indian, African-American, Asian or Hispanic/Latino
5. other problems of insulin resistance
The single risks factor for Type 2 Diabetes in children is excessive weight. In the US almost one in every five children is overweight, thus there is an increased chance of or doubled risk for that child to develop diabetes. These are some contributory factors for the development of obesity in children:
1. unhealthy eating pattern
2. lack of physical activity
3. inheritance
4. hormonal conditions or problems
So If any of these factors are present in your child, then there is a high probability of your child to develop diabetes. Taking note also that the mother is diabetes too, there is a great chance the child will inherit the genes containing the diabetes link so meaning there is a 50% chance that the child will develop diabetes at an early age or later.
