Wow, where do you find these things? That's a stroke of genius! I rarely peel my potatoes because most of the nutrition is in the peel and just below it--exactly what most people cut off. With this method, at least some of the vitamins and such are retained. I'll remember this the next time I make mashed potatoes! And I think that method would even save to tedious chore of scrubbing them.

I use a paring knife , but my daughter hates to peel potatoes and I just bought her a potato peeling glove on Ebay last week . She hasn't used it yet , so I can't say how she likes it . They are rubber gloves that are made for rubbing the skins off of potatoes .

dragon...I know this will shock the hell out of you, but I have a very diverse group of friends!!! I share with my friends & they share back. So, I get a lot of strange information that my friends know I will share!!! beach...I bought one of those gloves & found it didn't work as easy as indicated on the commercial. Maybe your daughter will have more luck that I did, but I was extremely disappointed!!!

She certainly made that look pretty easy! Isn't that Mary-Anne from Gilligan's Island? Hasn't she come a long way then! lol. What I have done in the past that's actually quite effective is to use those coarse dish scrubbing pads. If you fill a bowl with water and then just scrub the potato with it, the skin just rubs clean off. I wouldn't try it on those really dirty type potatoes though.

For the record Ms M, I had to watch this on a PC with no sound, so never actually got the chance to hear that being said. It was potato peeling by mime for me I'm afraid.

The nutrition and the fiber are in the potatoes. You are best off leaving the skin on. I never peel.

When cooking for myself, I do leave the skins on....just for that reason. My Dad has false teeth & he can't chew the skins (or so he says). I'm sure he's telling the truth as 85 year old teeth probably don't chew that well & I've been told false teeth makes it worse!!! I sometimes use Tee's recipe for mashed potatoes just so I don't have to deal with the skins. Real potatoes makes better mashed taters though!!!

I'm not thrilled with peeling potatoes either but I've found a simple fix. My Hubby is disabled and can't stand up for more than about 5 minutes. I get the stuff for him, let him sit at his desk and he peels them for me. It makes him feel good that he's helping and I don't have to peel potatoes. Love this idea!! Im going to try it tonight in fact... I was planning on making mashed potatoes to go with the london broil that has been marinating in my fridge for 2 days :) I have REALLY handy tip for making mashed potatoes. Thjey come out perfect every time. Setp 1: Open up the box of potatoe flake thingies. Step 2: Follow cooking instructions on box. Step 3: Frazzle your hair, powder some flour on your face and do some jumping jacks untill you are out of breath. Step 4: Serve the mashed potatoes and pretend you slaved away in the kitchen for hours preparing the meal. Works every time!

I watched it and found it fascinating enough and will be sure to try it. I don't know how well it would work for potatoes that are going to be fried but I bet it will work great for those to make French fries, hash browns and other potato recipes. Thanks for th video.. They are so many videos out there is it is hard to find some of the helpful ones so thanks for find and sharing this.

My friends know that I'm ALWAYS looking for a better way to build a mousetrap & they graciously send me all kinds of insane videos...just in case!!! I leave the skins on for my fried potatoes. Mashed potatoes are about the only ones that I peel. That is, unless I'm cooking for Dad. He says his false teeth won't chew potato skins so I peel ANY potato I'm fixing for him!!! I just HATE peeling potatoes. Don't you know that since watching this video, we've only had baked sweet potatoes so I've not tried this yet. Seems someone here said it works well!!!!

I don't often [peel my potatoes but last night I thought I would give this a try. I should have watched the video again before trying to peel potatoes this way. I didn't bring the water to a boil first and I boiled them too long, but the peeling did slip off very easily. I wanted to make some french fries. but as I said I boiled them too long. They did make nice fried potatoes though. I'm going to try it again later today.

The one concern I have is how long to boil them. I know she said 15 minutes, but I noticed she had a fairly large potato. Some of the smaller potatoes would be completely done in 15 minutes. Thanks for letting me know that this works for sure. Now I don't have to rush to try it!!!

Up until some years ago I had the most fantastic veggie/potato peeler going...it had actually belonged to my great grandmother and so real ancient but it worked like a charm..somehow it became MIA...oh, well, up until now I just use a regular chef's type knife to peel a potato, but YIKES after seeing that video I'll have to remember that...does look so much easier! Thanks for sharing that!!!

For fear of no longer belonging to the species known for it's handy dandy opposable thumbs, I gave up peeling potatoes, thereby keeping my thumbs, years ago. I solved the problem by buying only red potatoes which never need to be peeled.......just washed. Besides all the real nutrients in a potato is in the skin anyway.

I know that, you know that & everybody in myLot knows that; but my Dad just won't eat a potato with the skin still attached. He says his dentures won't chew them. You know how stubborn 85 year old men can be don't you??? I can't even get him to try it. Oh yeah, he ONLY eats Idaho potatoes. So when I use red potatoes, I have to make sure he doesn't see the skins. He's paying me back for every freaking thing I ever did to him while growing up!!!

By the time that I had boiled the potato, found the ice, plunged the potato, mushed it about a little and then extracted it I could have peeled 5 lbs of potatoes LadyM! However, it is a neat trick.

All true for sure..but great Idea if the potatoes were going to be boiled anyhow. like for potato soups, vegetable soups, potato salads..and to make hash browns the recipes says to boil so many minutes anyhow so this would save a bit of time..I don't use a veggie peeler but a knife usually. But it is neat..

I cook potatoes many different ways but only peel them if I'm making mashed potatoes or potato salad. I usually just wash them good and cook with the peel on. Like James, I sometimes use a coarse dish scrubber, but I really don't have a problem using a potato peeler.

I don't know why, but I'm spastic when it comes to a potato peeler. I leave the skin on most of the time. However, mashed potatoes just demands to have the potatoes peeled!!! I've even left the skin on the potatoes in potato salad. My Dad just doesn't like the skin. He says his false teeth won't chew the skins. Now that I'm feeding him several days a week, I need to remove the skin.

Hi LadyM, The video made it look so simple but waiting for the water to boil and the getting an ice bucket, just for one potato to fit in, I think its easier to just use the peeler which I do, I peel my potatoes while I'm watching tv so I don't find it tedious, I have in a bowl on my lap so no standing, am I lazy or what? hehehe. We're BOTH lazy lady!!! I tried the bowl in my lap thingy, but I made a mess. I don't think you have to do one potato at a time as far as boiling them. You'd just need a bigger ice bath. Since you think peeling is easier, i don't suggest you stop. I just think I'll try the boil & chill method (before I throw my peeler away). It may very well turn out to be more trouble than it's worth, but I'm one of those that has to learn the hard way!!!

peeling potatoes is really a messy work. Instead of using peeler, its better you peel it with knife as I feel. Or if potatoes are fresh and new season arrival, then you can simply rub them with hard clothes to peel off. Also you can boil potatoes and directly peel off by hand as they get softer.

Hi LadyMarissa...It looks a good idea but by the time you fiddle about boiling water ect, I'd have them peeled already. I don't like the potato peelers, I just use a good sharp knife and away I go. Have a lovely day today
