i was looking around on the net on things to buy online. i found about ebay. but since i am from philippines i went to ebay.ph instead. and i found this seller selling his ipod touch. with description and even his cellphone number. but he does not want to transact through ebay but through his cellphone. and for him to send his item you must pay first by his account on his mobile bank account. cause there is like bank account in mobile company here. you can send money to other people by funding your account through their offices and you can send money to other people by text. you will just send the money you have deposited in your account which will be registered in your cellphone those balance you have funded. and you can transfer that money to other cellphone number as long as they have open their account too. so basically you will have to send the payment through cellphone transfer of payment. and obviously the seller could withdraw immediately the money in the mobile company's branches or offices. and there is no guarantee that the item will be sent to you on the following. day. can we report this kind of bogus though we have not victimize. cause i feel that they are for sure bogus. isn't it that ebay transaction should be paypal payments and no other else .

i bought a few items internationally and locally. i am from the philippines as well. i never had a problem with ebay seller from the philippines but i did have a problem with international sellers. that was twice or thrice already. but i make sure that i let ebay know about it. one of the seller even send my money back to paypal. for safety buying of anything from philippines sellers why not try to meet them up. though i never tried meeting up buyers before. make sure to buy on power sellers so you wont have a problem. power sellers have a nice reputaion so they dont like to be banned at ebay. goodluck

oh that is good to hear that you enjoyed using ebay. what are the items nice to buy here. cause i am still planning what to buy. there is nothing that i am sure to buy. i am planning either computer flat screen monitor or ipod touch, or other gadgets. but not cellphone. i am tired of cellphone already. anyways, there is this monitor brand new which is flat screen on sale here in ebay US. and the thing is they have to ship it here and so i think that i have to pay of course for the shipment. though it is dirt cheap less than $100 with big screen i don't know if it is really worth it to buy including the shipment fees.

like taki down there said you need to make sure you will but from power sellers and she was saying it is the stars that represents them. if the seller has a lot of item out that means they have high number of stars and beside there user name you will see if they are power sellers. about purchasing breakable appliances i never tried it before. i only bought ipod at ebay some two years ago. but buying monitors and breakable stuff i dont think that i will try that. i would rather buy it here in the philippines at shops that i can choose. plus when you buy something like that the shipping is really expensive. goodluck on your purchase, hope it ends up well

so you mean that it is not advisable to buy electronic gadgets or items online. what then are the safe products that we should buy only online. cause i thought it is just okay to buy those gadgets. anyways, i will just then buy here in the philippines in local stores. thanks for your help.

Hi hotsummer, I've also done some ebay shopping before. And yes they do some mobile transactions aside from the usual paypal payments. I've deposited my payment through the seller's mobile account even though I don't feel confident that the seller is genuine or not. It's quite a sum and I kep doubting that I might just be scammed by someone lol... But luckily, the seller sent the item to me by jrs so I'm glad she did... hmmm...as for the product I supposed it's not what I've been expecting like what it looked like on the website though it's the same item and the design is the same. I'm a bit disappointed in that lol... Anyway, if you are not that confident to buy online especially paying through mobile transactions, then don't go for it. It is better to be cautious than get conned... When I compared buying online to just personally buying items from stores, I think it is cheaper in stores and I am sure of the quality and the appearance of the product than online purchasing...

yes i think that it is better to buy on real store than online store specially on ebay philippines. cause on ebay US version i think that the items are much cheaper though the quality can be bad too. but there are many cheap brand new items in ebay US. but in ebay philippines every thing seems to be expensive too. i can't believe though you trusted that person with your money. though you got the item. it is not that easy to trust them to keep their word. i think that through paypal payments at least we can cash back our money if they didn't send the item to us. i rather not buy through ebay philippines. cause i don't rust the sellers mostly.

well, it's not only ebay philippines that has some loopholes, even other online shopping from all over the world. I trust my fellow countrymen than any other peeps lol... ^_^ on mobile transactions, you can still track the location of the seller if you're not sure about the person. And report the seller to the authorities if the item was not shipped as promised. But filipinos are hard working, basically honest people and will not risk their reputation especially if they're business is through e-commerce because corporate fees or business fees are expensive for physical stores. ^_^ I'd be offended, too, if there will be a big letdown to my country lol...

not that i don't trust the seller here in our country. but i just am being careful and trying to know if they can possibly scam us or fool us. so i gues sit is still safe but only we are not sure about the quality of products though. but i don't find cheap things on ebay philippines actually. but there are lots of cheap brand new items in ebay US. too bad we don't have those kind of brand new expensive items being sold for cheap price.

I think by law the crime must first be committed before you can really report to authorities that it is a bogus. I reall am not sure that you can just report it just by gut feeling because crime must first be committed before you can say that it is indeed bogus. If you are really determine you should meet him and pay him when you see the merchandise and is in your hand already. I think transaction for cellphone can easily be transacted once you have the merchandise.

I suggest that you report it if you have this kind of ruling on Ebay. If you are not sure then research further to prove your case.

i thought that mobile transaction is not allowed or something not usually dont in ebay. so this is really allowed after all. can ebay control the transaction if they allow mobile transaction payments. cause i think there will not be evidence to show in ebay if we have been scammed or not.

Are you talking about Gcash transaction? I've been a member of Ebay for I guess.. 4 or 5 years already. I pretty have a good reputation on Ebay.ph. All my items posted are paid through GCASH. Normally, what happens on Ebay.ph, after winning the item you have bid, you'll pay first before they send it out to you. Sure there are quite numbers of bogus sellers so you've got to be really cautious. First off, check his feedback.. You can tell right from there if that person is a true Ebayer. Feedbacks are big help to get a genuine seller that provide real transactions. There are terms and conditions that a seller place for their items.. If you can't abide or if you don't like his terms then might as well leave it. Paypal isn't really a popular one on Ebay.ph, cause not all have their credit card. I hope this helps..

I've sold my used private items. I don't own a store. I sell my used stuff to clear out my closet. I sell them a dirt cheap. I don't know about the charges of Ebay, in my case I don't pay charges, but before I did, just really a very little amount, depends on how you post the item to get buyers attention. You can buy items on Ebay.com paying through Paypal, and it's safe. Again, you have to check their feedbacks, as for it's their reputation.. I'm not sure about the debit card if you can pay through that cause mostly they charge through Paypal using credit card. Maybe you can have talk with the seller with that concern.

what have you sold on ebay. i think i need to buy from you instead. anyways, do ebay get a cut from the items you sold. do you get charged for the item you sell there. how do ebay from us if we transact on ebay. anyways, cause i am planning to buy something hope you will give good tips and good cheap items to buy on ebay. is it better to buy in ebay international. but i worry about the shipment charges. does it accept credit card. i thought paypal is okay. cause i have paypal but i used only debit card to verify my paypal and i don't have credit card. i only have personal paypal account. is that okay or allowed in paying through paypal.

it is dangerous man but it is in our hands that we choose to trade with him private or do it via Ebay. We will get insurance from ebay but no guarantee that the person would give us items when done in private.

it is hard to transact in private. i prefer by ebay cause i think it is more safe as i have read by other people's post.

One incident I remember, It was when my boss bought a Laptop from e-bay and sent the payment. The dealer said that the laptop would be delivered in 1 week but that wasn't delivered at all. She was given insurance money from the company. With private transaction, you won't get such insurance!

Try to look at the history of the seller first. If his or her reputations seems unquestionable, I guess you can deal with that person with no doubt in your mind but, if it seems like things might go uncertain, you might as well choose some secure transactions. You can always contact the seller and see if you can arrange a meet up instead of that mobile fund transactions. Some can negotiate after all. I did that before and things went well. You can only report if the seller actually did something bad but, if your just doubtful with the way he or she handles transactions, you might as well leave them be until someone catches them and then really reports their bad behaviour.

Well, if the seller is new, he or she must really do her best to get his or her first positive response to add to his or her reputation. Anyway, even if you already have a hundred positive feedbacks from those that you have made deals with, it is still a stain to one's performance to see even one negative feed back so, as much as possible, be it an old member or someone starting up, they should try their best to have their customers satisfied so that they could possibly buy again or even refer them to their friends who might also be interested in buying. So, being a new seller and if that seller is indeed willing to sell, he or she might as well try to convince the buyer, as in deal with them properly to the extent of finializing a date and location on how they woudl deal. Only experienced sellers would venture on other means of transactions. One just has to either wait until they are capable or simply maintain what has been working for them for a long time.

yes i almost forgot that there is also reputation thing as i have read before. i will have to look it up on how to find or know their reputation points. what if the seller is just new in this. how any one trust him if he has not sold any thing yet successfully and so how will he able to build up his reputation.

Haha!~I've read through all your posts & replies. 1st things 1st - you said you are new so ALWAYS read the instructions & guidelines. My wife & I are eBay sellers ourselves so don't put all of us in the same basket just because there are rotten apples around? Haha!~Rule no.1 for us sellers is very simple - we NEVER ship out items IF payment is not cleared - that's standard eBay rules. There are also honest eBay sellers who ship out items & never get paid - so how do you explain that? So that's why eBay made it compulsory for buyers to pay 1st. So as a buyer, you need to know your rights as well - to safeguard yourself, NEVER make a transaction outside of eBay meaning if there are not bids being placed or no "Buy It Now" or just anything without using the eBay system - NEVER PAY!~ As a seller, eBay is making it compulsory now for all sellers to put their credit card up on file so they have all the necessary details to track the person down if any hanky-panky happens!~ You need to check it out whether they've enforced that in Philippines. Mobile transaction is actually a valid payment method. But always remember to transact through the system so eBay will back you up should there be any problem that arises. But before all this - check the seller's feedback rating!~ People with higher rating should be more trust worthy but at the end of the day, there are still people who can be dishonest as they try to solicit feedback. So if you feel uncomfortable, just simply don't buy as you said you could buy it at a shop at a cheaper price so what's the point of buying it through eBay? Anyway, mostly all online shopping is based on trust. If that factor is not there, it's really hard to have any transaction. Then again trust is a very sacred thing so it must be handled properly as the saying goes - once bitten twice shy

too bad that the seller should have a credit card to be able to sell on ebay. i don't have credit card and i am planning to sell too. but i have paypal account that is verified by debit card. i have personal account though. anyways, about buying through there. i am still learning things around here. so it is not that risky now to buy things on ebay. glad to know that. and so i may continue my plan on to look around for stuff i could or would want to buy online. cause i want to save money. hopefully buying here would really save me a lot.

I'm not sure how it works at your place as we can't have our local bank accounts linked to our PayPal so having a PayPal a/c makes no difference as a credit card is required. I don't think they accept debit cards either but only credit cards. So I guess you need to find out more. You can actually write to them. So all the best!~

That's too good to be true. Since it's ebay.ph, you should arrange a meet up on a place that's very near to both of you. Do not fall coz you'll get scammed and ebay is already filled with scammers (.ph or .com) for almost a decade now. If a seller is asking for money deposit or transfers first, it's a 101% scam.. Again, do not bite or you'll gonna regret it..

I always look at ebay for some items. I usually check first the star thing if the person is really nice or something, his transactions to others. People leave comments that like this and that which is one thing to prove that this person can be trusted. Do not accept cellphone transfer money. Many have been victimized by these. It is good to transact face to face. Hehehe.

so there is star rating also ont his ebay. i have not noticed that. where can i see that star. does star rating a good way to see the reputation of the person. can't he just scam people and don't care any more if he loses reputation. and how ebay pays us back the money if we paid the seller through mobile transaction. i know that by paypal transaction that we can ask for cashback if we are scammed. and anyways, how do the seller show proof that indeed that he sent the item already. and was received by the buyer and so that they will not be scammed by the buyer too.

During this time we really need to put extra careful on what we are dealing for, because its hard to trust other people now a days. So i think what you did is just correct you didn't bother to deal with that guy not unless there's an assurances that the item would be sent to you upon your payment. Yes there's really kind of people like that no matter where you go, We just need put extra careful next time.

Be careful in buying items from eBay, especially the ones who choose to transact through mobile banking. 95% of the time, they are fake sellers, since financial transactions through mobile phones cannot be recorded or archived by cellular companies. As a result, you won't be able to report the problem per se. Also, don't choose something that has an attractive price. If possible, opt for a COD or a meeting during the transaction. :)

Hey there! Does the seller doesn't have any payment options? I haven't heard that there's someone from Ebay who didn't send the item(s) after receiving the payment. No, the are not bogus. Ebay can track them down. You can report these people. At Ebay there is a feedback kinda thing, forgot what's it called, where you have to write a feedback about the product of the seller or about the seller. At Ebay there is a what you called reputation. If the seller has a good reputation he/she can be trusted. If you really wanna be sure bid on it at Ebay and not with the persons other transaction terms. I have done shopping at Ebay Philippines and it has been all 100%. I receive the items that I bought on the agreed date and price. If you don't trust, don't bid.. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

ah ok. so how does ebay track the seller then. how can ebay be sure if the buyer gives the real name and address specially if is doing only mobile transactions than paypal transactions. anyways, i have not used ebay before. hoepfully it is just safe. but i have read some negative things about ebay products. i mean that the seller will sell some items that are not good standards as they described in their description. i will take a second look on this ebay philipipne.s but i find the products on ebay philippines as expensive as buying them on real stores.

Hi there. I've sold quite a few items on e-bay and have used your so-called fund transfer by cellphone as the method by which I accepted payment from buyers. This is actually not disallowed and it would be unfair to tag a person as a bogus seller without solid proof. I guess the best thing to do if you before entering into a transaction with a seller on e-bay is to check his/her feedback profile. This should give you a pretty good idea on how honest the seller has been in past transactions. Also, the key is to communicate well with the seller. Before placing your bid, contact him/her through e-mail, cellphone or through e-bay's "ask the seller" option. Asking the right questions may help you determine whether the seller is just trying to scam you or not. Lastly, for high-value items such as the one you've posted about, I guess the best option would be to work it out with the seller to just meet up at a certain place. Nothing beats a cash on delivery transaction. Lastly, if you do not feel comfortable dealing with the seller in spite of considering all the above, then don't. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to online trading.
@hotsummer (13837)

10 Apr 09
so do you mean that there is still a chance that the seller can cheat the buyer of the item after being paid. will not ebay be able to track down the seller and get back the money from them specially if the transaction is done through mobile transfer.
