Twitter is a microblogging platform where you can make updates of your whereabouts and in 140 characters or less. Usually, you can write about the things you are currently doing like updating your blog, making a new post, watching a movie, going to somewhere, and the list never ends. 
From Twitter itself, Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
Of course you can place links in your tweets and in that note you can produce traffic to your blog or get referrals, specially if you have many twitter followers.

I am not sure about earning but you can learn a lot from different people.
If you have many followers, than yous, you can increased your earnings from any website.
