Best Blog Site to Use?

I'm looking to start a blog just to see how things go along and I was wondering what experiences people have had with certain websites. I want something free since I'm not sure how long I'm going to be continuing, its just that one of my college professors (I'm a Communication major) said that we need to develop blogs in order to gain an audience now because of the job market and it is therefore easier for us to get hired.
I've heard of blogspot... so what about others?
I want something where I have a little bit more room to play around with how the website actually looks.

Hi,
For me personally if you want to set up a blog wordpress is the way to go. But if you want the full range of what it can do(themes, plugins etc,) you want to host it somewhere other than wordpress.com. While I have my own hosting there are plenty of free hosting sites around that allow you to set up a wordpress blog.
One major advantage of using a wordpress blog is that it is very search engine friendly which means it's easier to get visitors via search engines

I completely agree. You want to host your main blog on your server that way you have full control. Hosting doesn't cost that much, and it's free to download the blog from wordpress.org
Once you get blogging, you'll be amazed at the number of readers you'll start to attract if you optimize it right.

The important thing to remember with a blog is its not the website you use its how you market that website. Free blog sites like blogger.com, wordpress.org, wordpress.com, are just as good as the expensive ones if you market and hub your site. If you private message me I can help you set these things up. I have them set up right now and I'm tinkering with them will I wait to go back for an MS in Communicaitons.
If I don't hear from you, good luck with your endeavors.
