Are you an optimist? If so, please tell me your secret, your philosophy, etc.

I'm, obviously, not an optimist. I'm not a pessimist though - more like a pragmatist/realist. But the economic picture for my family (as with many, many others) has taken a serious downturn in the last four months or so and I find myself waking up tense and angry. I can't seem to look on the sunny side/positive side of things 'cause, frankly, I can't find one right now and I'm just not into self-delusion.
I know there are probably a lot of you out there that are positive thinkers and optimists even when things are really rough. I'm hoping you will give some thought to your answers - are you 'just built that way' or did you train yourself to look for the good when there appears to be none on the surface of things? I've had horribly tough times before and, as I look back, I can see where things actually resolved themselves better than I had expected. But, shoot, I'm older now and tired of going through tough times. I've had enough. Or am I just being a big whiny butthead? It's okay. You can tell me that too. Thanks!

Life is what you put into it. So, by being prgmatist you see the difficulty of your family to be ahead finacialy thus make it into your reality. Then it will become your reality. We are our own creator of our life.
So in the situation as you are experienced right now, treat it as a bump, a difficulty in life and it will go away. And, exactly that is what it is. As you sail thru your life you will find moment of good weather and stormy weather. And as stormy weather , it will pass and better will come. Fear is the orst thing one can have in life. Fight it with hope. Take hope as a good instrument for you to sail thru rough weather for if you give you will be drown in the sea.
best of wishes
