Help with growing an onion

I bought onions a couple of weeks ago and forgot about them.They have budds coming at of them.Can I plant them in the ground like that or should i just throw them away? Is it o late to plant them this way? If I canot plant them this way what do i do to start planting onions?

Don't throw them thar onions away, they are still useful. My understanding is that if you just cut off the top third of the onion and then plant the top of the onion just under the surface and you will grow onions.
The same thing with potatoes that sprouts. Cut the potato into two or three pieces being sure each piece has an eye or sprout and plant them in loose soil and you will have potatoes.

i didnt know that i just put them in my compost pile , i guess i will have to do that because i have some onions doing that now,

Thank you for your response, I will do this later on in the week,I will also do this with my potatoes.It will be nice to have fresh onions and potatoes.My kid go through theses fast it will save me some money as well

No it's not late ..you can still plant them. As this is summer and
oninos come up very well in summers only. most of the soils suits
for onions . But light soil will be more good. You have to dig the
soil little dip and then keep the onion on the plant side up..as
u told that onion has plants already. While digging the soil take out the
stones out too.
