How Do You Define Friendship?

During lunch one afternoon, I was sitting around with several of my coworkers (all of us are analysts who over analyze every aspect of our lives) when the question "how do you define friendship" was posed. The discussion went around the group for a few minutes before landing on me to answer. I sat for a few minutes to think about it and then responded that I had to answer first with my explanation and then my definition.
My dearest friend in the world lived, at the time, thousands of miles away from me. If she asked me to drop everything I am doing to be by her side, to travel by any mode available that would deliver me the quickest, I would do it. Not only would I do, I would do without asking why. I trust her so much, that I know she would never abuse our friendship for something meaningless. So if she asked for me to drop everything to help her, I know that I would make the same decision to drop everything even if I knew the reason.
So for me, in my overly analyzed life, for my closest relationships... I do not need to ask WHY?
In this world of ones and zeros, texting, friend requests and the like, how do you define friendship?

Friendship to me is being loyal, honest and there through the good times and the bad times. Sharing and caring for each other.

the teacher once asked us how do you think the friendship when i was a child. we always say that my friend must be kind and care for me, we would help ethch other and be happy together.now,i am gradually mature, friendship is very important for everyone,include me.

A true friend is someone who you can rely on and trust at all times and in all circumstances. Some one once said to me "I don't think that you have many friends" to which I replied, "No, but I have a lot of acquaintances." Adding that I thought that was an important distinction.

Friends love each other, one never attempts to force, coerce or control the other to change for the better. There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. To those who are blessed with good friends, appreciate them.

A DEFINITION OF FRIENDSHIP.
Friendship is the comfort,the inexpressible comfort of felling safe with a
personal having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,but pouring all
right out just as they are, chaff and grain together,certain that a
faithful friendly hand will take and sift them,keep what is worth keeping and,
with a breth of comfort,blow the rest away.

Well,it is hard to say.My best friend also lives far away from me and we don't call each other often.But just like you,If he ask me to do something ,I will do it without asking reasons.So I think friendship is a kind of relationship that is based on deep understanding and believe in each other.Best friends don't need to talk too much because they always know the other's thoughts in advance.Sometimes we may have different opinions,but we still know why the other think in another.So I think friendship is just deep understanding and belief in each other based on that deep understanding.

This is coming from a true cynic. Bear with me though.
I believe that a true friend is the one who checks up on you when you been out of reach for a while. A person whom washes your back even if you can't wash theirs in return.
A friend is hard to find. I think that's also one of those words like "love" that gets used to often for no reason other than the lack of the politically correct term for someone whom you see on a day to day basis.
Just my opinion. You asked.

Hiiiii Auntina,well friendship is a very beautiful relationship .it is not done for any gains ,benefits or any thing else,it happens.according to me its the only relationship in which person can choose his relation himself and not by God.its the most pious relationship I have ever experienced.A friend is a sweet gift,an emotional lift,a mood chiller,a gem so rare,an answered prayer,a happy mate and a lucky fate.

well i dont have many friends ,but those who r my friends r very precious to me , i just luv to talk to them , and they luv to be with me too . i used to know many people earlier whom i called "my friends" but now i have realized that those people were just with me for they wanted something , and i was an extra for them .
so now i can define friends as , the person who wants to talk to u and pleads first is ur real friend, and also he will always be there to help u.

but frienship i will definately defined it for somebody you can trust, someone can help you if you needed most, someon been their whether the rains falling down.
frienship never ends but lovers must do. heehehhe friendship also gives your happiness, enlighted you by through each day. friendship must cointains Care, resfect, foundnes means the gods things. lol
