Well this shot shows my lilacs have started to form buds now as well. Still really cold at nights with temps in the 20 to 35 degree range though. I also spotted 4 new shoots from one bush growing up from the ground as well. This means more transplanting this fall of lilacs it seems. Do you have lilacs? Do you love their aroma? I love a vase full on my dining room table as the aroma stays for a good week usually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I don't have any lilacs. When I was growing up we had a Lilac bush in the back yard that was over 10 feet tall and probably that big across too. It was huge. We used to play around in the middle of the bush and climb up it that is how big it was.

My guess is that the bush you had was maybe 5 or more actually. They spreqad like wildfire does. Hard to control without a lot of trimming and transplanting. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

The lilacs in our area are starting to bud now too. I wish I had a bush or two in my garden. I do love them so. But, the scent is too much for my allergies. Dang. When I was younger I would pick big bunches and bring them inside too. Now I have to keep my distance and enjoy them from afar.

I lanted one small bush 3 years ago out back. They spread so quickly that I now have 5 at least and more shoots appeared this spring. Lotta work to control them thouigh. But well worth it in my mind. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I love lilacs. The deep purple ones are my favorite out of them all. I have pink ones in my yard. We planted them last year and they did survive the winter this year. Right now I am keeping them close to my house to help survive until they become more of a sturdy bush. I eventually want the lilacs to be planted outside of my kitchen window, so I can smell them when the breeze blows through. Even though the daisy is my favorite flower, I think the lilac is my favorite smell. Have a GREAT day! Sherri

I don't have any lilacs in my present location, but the neighbors on either side of me do, so I do get to enjoy them. I have forsythia in my backyard that's starting to bud. I brought in a few branches to put in water to speed them along.

My forsythia has long passed. It was warm early, I guess. I am saying this because my lilacs were setting buds when we had a freeze a couple of weeks ago. Usually they are blooming in late May and early June.

My neighbor behind me has the fence lined with lilacs. I get a lot from those bushes yearly for the house as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thanks for the BR. The forsythia branches I brought in still have a day or two to go before they're in full blossom, but they're getting there.

I love how lilacs smell, but I can't be around them too much, I start getting a headache. I used to have a lilac bush that got destroyed when I got an addition put on my house. I mean to replant, but maybe I'll get a tree instead of a bush.

Here goes again with my typical answer, hahaha We do not have any lilacs but I also love the smell of them and they are such a pretty flower. Maybe if I had a green thumb I could or would have more things around here.

Lilacs are very easy to grow. But they do spread very quickly so it's a lot of work. Unless you have a large area to just let them grow wildly that is. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

There are lilac trees, that do not spread. You just have to get the right variety.

I love lilacs, but I expect that they all froze because we have had such up and down weather. I know the white one did. I need to go out and check on them tomorrow and see what remains.

My neighbor has lilac bushes and they are beautiful. I love the scent of them! I want to get some, too, but they're so expensive. I'm afraid all the grand plans I have for my yard are mostly out of my price range. But I did get some morning glories and hollyhock seeds last week that will really spruce up the fence at the alley!

I love the smell of lilacs. I have 8 bushes. They've put on leaves, but won't bloom for another week or two yet. I'm really disappointed in these lilacs though. They were supposed to be the old fashioned vulgaris(sp) variety, grow 6 feet wide and up to 10 feet tall and have a very strong scent. Mine are 15 years old, about 4 feet high and the blooms have so little fragrance I have to stick my nose to them to smell them. I haven't been to Taos NM in many many years, but the last time I was there in the spring the whole town smelled like lilacs. I didn't want to leave.

Hi Lilacs, I do love Lilacs but I haven't got any but some of my neighbours have got them. They have a lovely aroma of them, don't work too hard or you'll have a back ache later on, take care. Tamara

Hey Grandpa Bob! You have hit on one of my most favorite flowers! I not only love the beautiful colors, but I love the fragrances too! I love lilacs! They are my most favorites! When we had a house we had them growing in the yard and I loved to cut them and put them in vases everywhere! I am beyond jealous! It makes me want to cry when I think of all the beautiful lilac bushes we had at our house! So when you cut them, think of me!

I like them outside inside to much much for me. Over powering for me. I do love them outside. I still have to get some for this house as they tore the old ones out at my last house. You have a great day.

I loved that photo shot of the lilac, all icy and yet trying to bud out to grow; WE've had very strange weather here too in Missouri, several nights of cool frosty weather here too; I pray spring will continue to come here I'm ready for it:
