a walk to remember...

No, No, NO, this is not about the movie a walk to remember. This is an experience from a long walk to Antipolo. But it is not my first time, but it is the first time that I'm gonna share it with lots of people. We started walking at 4:10 in the afternoon. Location is Baesa, Quezon City. We ended at around 10 in the evening at our destination Antipolo Church. There was a lot of people walking. Both young and old, boy and girl. From different places. I even saw a foreigner. Some are wearing shoes, slippers, some or even walking barefoot. It was a very tiring walk, and as of the moment my legs are still aching. It is my husband's family tradition, they've been walking every Holy Thursday. They've been doing that for years. The people have their own reasons for walking, one reason is tradition, another is for companionship just because their friends or organization is walking. Others just for fun. Well, one of my reason is really tradition. But as I was walking, I started to pray. and offered the walk for God. I just made my walk for solemn. And when we reached the church, it was amazing. All of the tiredness was gone. How about you guys, what did you do on these Holy days?

I was at my least religious self during the holy week. :-( I only stayed at home, and dropped by the office to internet. That was mostly it. Home and office. I only entered the church on Easter Sunday because I felt guilty. :-D

Thanks for sharing. I heard about the Antipolo Tradition every Holy Thursday. Maybe my husband and I can participate next year. Our current yearly practice was to visit different churches in Manila during Holy Thursday.

Hi red, I didn't do anything special during Holy week, but I liked your discussion very much. As I was reading, it was like I could see the group walking and everyone appeared happy to be together. It reminded me of when I was just a child and a group of us would be walking to church on a Sunday, or maybe during holy week. We had to walk for about an hour and often we would be in groups. It gave me a good feeling to read your discussion, thank you for posting it. Blessings.

This year I am in a very exciting Holy Week... I am at work. For the years that I am working, I always follow Philippine working and non-working days. For some reason, my Directors are not savvy into following this. Geez. I am not happy with it, but I think this should not mean I need to slack off. Work! Work! Work!

well... i have to admit i am not too fond of walking.. not that it's something personal.,, but i am too much of a lazy person to go for a walk early in the morning.. as for the evenings,, i am of the opinion that evenings are for you to relax in your front yard sipping your coffee and enjoying the view of your neighborhood... ;)

For the Holy Week, I don't have to go somewhere special because our Parish usually do something nice for it. For Maundy Thursday, I attended the mass at around 5pm and witnessed the play of Last Supper. After the mass, there was a vigil on the Blessed Sacrament until midnight (though I did not attend it because I was tired from the travel from Manila). Then for Good Friday, around 3pm, attended Holy Liturgy, Honoring of the Cross and Penetential Procession (we walked around 4 kilometers barefoot). And just now, I came back from the Church to attend the Easter Mass. XD Holy Week in our parish is really holy so I always make it a point to go home during this time just to be able to participate.

That is a great way of spending the Good Friday or the Holy Week... i was not able to do anything... even catch up on chores at home because my daughter insisted on being carried all the time... she is afraid of the passion singing and very much afraid when she hears the "Mandarame" or people who do the self flagellation that she refuse to leave the apartment... So the only thing i was able to do was stay in front of the laptop... do mylot... with her sitting on my lap...

That sounds fun, walking with such a big group of ple, regardless of being for religious purpose or just for the fun of it.. lol =D I have nto joined any walk like this because very few of my frenz really believe in religions.. haha =D As far as i know, the only religious walk in singapore, belongs to hindulism.. Every year, without fail, they will start walking from somewhere to the other end whereby their mosque is located.. At that time of the year, most roads will be closed and traffic will be diverted for such a big event.. haha =D ON top of that, those really religious ones will be sticking pins and needles into and throught their body, walking the whole journey.. After which, there's also, walking on fire.. haha =D It looks fun, but it's not really so.. hehe ^_^

so you joined the alay lakad too? it is worth it isn't it? even if you have to walk a long way you won't feel tired because there are many things to see and many people to talk too. I wonder if I saw you there too??? Nah, just kidding but having this walk is just a way of remembering the sacrifice the Lord God made and after finishing the walk, I just can't explain the feeling when you reach the church and there are many people gathering there.

In our overly busy world these types of experiences are had to come by. I am so glad this was a richly spiritual one for you. Blessings
