Make sure that you keep your crutches about 3 inches below your armpit, in between your torso and your arm. You should not have to hunch, and should not have your crutches all the way up in your armpit.
When you are walking, make sure your crutches are always supporting your bad leg. That is, when your bad leg is stepping, so are your crutches. The good leg can support itself on its own.
When going up stairs, plant your crutches firmly on the ground and use your arms as leverage as you lift your good leg to the next step. Then bring the crutches up to the same step as your good leg and repeat. Make sure to take it one step at a time.
When going down stairs, make the crutches act first. Put the crutches on the stair below you, and then lower your good leg down to meet them. Repeat, one stair at a time.
I hope this helps -- Good luck and speedy recovery to you!
