Do you think a doctor would misdiagnose you to get more money?

I have been going to the doctor for my pregnancy every month. Early in my pregnancy, I got a call from a nurse saying I had Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The nurse told me that this was a very common STD that 1 in 2 women have. She said it wasn't harmful, but I should get a microscope check from my gynecologist to be on the safe side. After ending the phone call, I couldn't believe this news. I always considered myself to be very clean and never imagined having any type of disease, even if it was common. I told my mother about this and she recommended I get a second opinion. My mother doesn't like hospitals. She thinks doctors just make up things to charge you more money. I did go to another doctor to get a blood test. To my surprise, this doctor said I didn't have HPV. I didn't know what to think. I told him about my previous diagnosis and he affirmed that I did not have it. Now I believe that my mother is right. Some doctors will take your lack of knowledge for granted to get money. They assume you won't get a second opinion so they tell you anything to run false tests and get more money. Always get a second opinion.

I do not and i have not trusted doctors for a long time. They will lie to you, and give you a false diagnosis. I do feel alot of doctors are only in it for the money, they don't care whether they are helping or hurting, and they are the ones who make it hard for people to trust a doctor who is actually trying to help people.

It would be a better world if doctors actually did what they set out to do in the first place, helping people. The dollar signs seem to get the better of them, and go to their heads. I understand that most doctors have families to take care of and support also, but the money keeps the people who are paying them from getting the proper care. When you have a doctors appointment and you have to wait for hours to see the doctor and then the doctor stays with you for five minutes, it makes you wonder why am i paying this doctor $50.00 to $100.00 to tell me a lie or nothing at all.

You are absolutely right, but wouldn't the world be a better place if you were wrong?

I feel great fear thinking about the question, because if doctors behave badly like this, then we patient can do nothing. Some of my friends always say that doctors can not be trusted because they once spent a lot of money on a really really light illenss. They think that doctors want patient to buy as many as possible medicines to earn money.Well,I think maybe this kind of doctors do exists, they are the minority for sure. Most of our doctors are warm-hearted and relible.

Always, Get a second opinion.. in this case I would get a third opinion...
Sometimes its doctors doing that.. Other times it is mess up in the lab results, or paper work ... Human error does happen too ...
My dad had a broken bone on his sternum cutting off his esophagus to his stomach..
He went to a heart doctor and she sent him to the other doctor both were husband and wife sent him back and forth for 6 months My Dad lost tons of weight as he could not eat was living on Ensure... Finally they went to Mayo Clinic.... And they said he could not believe that the doctors did not catch it right away there is no way they could have missed this bone on her sternum after a truck ran a stop lightand ran into his car as being the problem...
So my dad ended up with high blood pressure, heat problems, and now diebetis.. because of these two idiot doctors husband and wife sending him back and forth...
So Janesville, WI mercy clinic.. My family does not trust very well.. We all go up to Edgerton, or Madison, WI or Mayo Clinic on Rochester MN or wherever that is...
So definately take that second or third opinion...
So many things can go wrong by accident or deliberately.. These doctors are lucky my Dad does not believe in Sueing them.. If I was dad I would have sued them for every penny they have...

Thanx for sharing this story. Those doctors need to be exposed. Your father wasted his time and his condition got worse. They should not be allowed to practice medicine.

Hi
It is sad incident happened with you but I am happy to know that your mother’s wise decision saved you from further worries. This the first time I heard about a doctor who can do something illegal for money. I heard many stories about wrong diagnoses and its side effects. But this is really cruel and also with a pregnant woman how can they put you in tension at this particular stage. Please always listen to your mother she is experienced and concerned about you too. All the best to both of you.

Yes, I think some doctors would misdiagnose us for money. I had an experience that a dentist diagnosed me that I needed to do Endodontic therapies for two teeth of mine.
I can still remember the pain on doing these therapies, I have went to his clinic for almost 15 times over 3 months. And my mum just heard from a co-worker of her that the dentist was ill famed for getting money from his patients. And I went to another dentist and was advised I didn't need to do the endodontic therapies!!!
So that's true to get a second opinion.

Wow. There should be more malpractice suits against doctors who do such things. They think they can get away with anything.

people always put docotors down, its sad really because they help us so much and we just crap on them. I believe they do what they can to help, you really think docotrs do that? put it this way i know a doctor on the nhs and he earn't £25,000 in one month and the average month isn't fare below that, hes been an doctor for 7 years, you really think money is an issue to him?

That's just one doctor. When a person makes a lot of money, they usually aren't satisfied. They always want more because it costs more for them to live. So just because a doctor makes $25,000 a month doesn't mean he won't try to get more money out of his or her patients.

Doing that would be considered unethical in the practice of medicine. IF a doctor would be caught doing that would lose his license and possible end up in jail. But you never know there are always unscrupulous people out there and doctors are no exception.
Here's the thing though, even if the doctor doesn't do that he can make mistakes since doctors are only human. It is always wise to seek a second opinion like they say no one knows the more about the situation except you.
If you are not satisfied with a doctors advice seek a second opinion, even a third or a fourth...

yes, doctors are human too even though they have "god like" responsibilities and just like some humans some are good, some not so good.

MY GOSH!!! I also had the same thing! This Doctor told me that I had HPV! I was sooooo devastated! I kept on crying and crying! I was depressed the whole week! I kept on researching what it was and it really got me paranoid! soooo much! Then I accepted it... But after that I went to another check up..for my yearly pap smear. I went to another doctor, after the check up surprisingly She did not say anything about HPV. Then I told her.. What about my HPV. I asked her if it was progressing and she told me that there was nothing there. I was normal! I even told her to double check because the last time I had a check up I was diagnosed with HPV. So she said ok... Then after a week she called me up saying that I really don't have HPV and that I don't have to worry about anything... What a relief! Whew!

I have worked for doctors and I would say that this would probably not be true that doctors misdiagnose to make extra money. If anything, labs make mistakes and so do the people who work for the doctor. They usually have too many patients to see in a day and labs can also mix up test results. This is why you should always double check whatever you are told. It is not because of greed but because of mistakes made along the way, usually from people who are not paying attention in the doctor's office or in the lab. This is a good reason why it is important to do a good job no matter what your job is.

I agree that mistakes can be made, which is beyond the doctor's control. It is the duty of the doctor to be accurate when it comes to diagnosing patients. He has a staff that works with him for this very purpose. No person should have to worry about being wrongfully diagnosed because of carelessness. If I were a doctor, I would make sure my employees are organized and meticulous if they want to work for me.

Hey, you never know what people may do. Think about it. Have you ever been to school and had a teacher that really really hated his or her job? They just did it to get money? It could be the same way with a doctor. Not everybody in this world actually is true to themselves... they're stuck doing things that their parents forced them into. Or maybe because they saw the dollar signs they figured they'd be a doctor. If people actually followed their dreams and were true to themselves I feel that the world would operate a lot differently.

That is true. People choose their professions for different reasons. Some people are honest and want to help others, whereas, some people may be driven by the salaries that come with the jobs. I think if all people became what they wanted to be when they were kid, everyone would be happy and satisfied in their professions.

Sometimes I feel that way too. Some Doctors wants to get more money from us.
For my experience the doctors wants me to go for a check up every 3 months but I don't have enough money to do that. I'm not surprise why other patients prefer not to go to the hospital because of the cost of hospitalization, medicines and laboratories. I experienced also wrong diagnosis so I need to be find another Doctor for a second opinion so I need to pay again. Why there are Doctors like that who are not willing to treat us honestly and for free.

What?? This is an outrage! How can doctors do that to patients ={ Thay have taken the pledge and they should stick by it. If i were you, i'd sure that doctor for making false claims before even confirming it. I am very angry for you, because you were pregnant and i'm sure you wouldn't like to hear such stuff while you're in an important phase of your life. These kind of people don't even deserve to be doctors, to hell with their qualifications when they harbour such thoughts. I guess we should all always get a second opinion in order to second check their diagnosis.
Take care..

Wow! I knew that kind of stuff happened, but you wouldn't think they would be so quick to scam patients out of money! I guess that is what malpractice insurance is for!
Regarding the HPV thing, in the doctor's defense, what they look for is abnormal cells. However, just because they get an abnormal PAP smear from you does not mean you have HPV. They have to take a biopsy of your cervix and send it in to confirm that. I would know. I've had it done.
Anyway, abnormal paps are very, very common, and usually don't mean anything. Just to be safe, you should go in a couple months down the road and get another one just to see if it comes back normal.
Regardless, there will ALWAYS be people in the medical community (especially big pHarma) that are only out for your money. These people want a society of sick people, or they would be out of a job.

I definitely agree. Most people don't pay their hospital bills so doctors probably resort to malpractice to make up for their losses. I guess they think there is no harm in misdiagnosing someone as long as you can run a few tests and then say there's nothing wrong.

If one Doctor has diagnosed You with HPV and a second opinion from another has given You the all clear,You may have 3 choices..either You've been given someone else's diagnosis by mistake,or one or the other diagnoses is incorrect..I hope it's the one where you don't have the virus, and not the one where you have inept care for You and your baby..

Well I don`t agree personally on this part that doctors misdiagnose you to get money because you don`t know what you are suffering from.and doctor is also a human he can only diagnose with the help of tests. And people often mistake doctors if the test comes out to be negative , but what if that test would have been positive???????? of course there are some doctors who misuse this right but you cannot make assumptions on the basis of few examples as all fingers in our hand are not same in size same is in this case also

That is right. There were many rip - offs cases around the town. It is the best decision to get a second opinion. Don't get scammed by those unethical doctors. They simply try to con your money that is all.

I agree about always getting a second opinion, some doctors may do that for more money, but it also can be trial and error. If you blood gets contaminated it can give a false positive. My husband is a doctor and there are times that test come back a false positive so he usually orders a second test to confirm it. But yes my husband and I both believe that doctors jack bills up, misdiagnose, and over charge so yes ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION!!!
