Why don't more people want to go out in the rain?

I understand when it's early spring and it's still a little frosty.
Same goes for mid to late fall. But while it's warm...I don't get it.
The rain clears and cleans the air. It enhances the smells of flowers. And when it's hot especially...Goddess, I don't know how many of you can afford air conditioning or anything, but the rain is a life-saver when you've been roasting all day.
So why don't more people enjoy the rain? Why're people like me and my family, who run out as soon as the rain starts looked at funny?
Just asking. I always look to learn something new every day and I never understood this.

I love going out in the rain except when there's lightening. I love the smells, the sounds and feel of the fresh air on me. I also found out a long time ago that I'm waterproof so it's not like I'm going to melt from a little water

I do love the rain and I do love to walk in the rain. Ok, maybe not in a downpour, but I love it.
I don't really see it as a nuisance, it's more like the promise of rebirth isn't it?

I suppose that some people just don't like the rain and/or getting wet. Personally, during the spring, when it's warm, I really love going in the rain. I'm half Irish. So, I come from people, who are used to the rain, and such. For some reason, ever since I was a kid, I always kind of liked it, when it was raining. I still enjoy it, when it rains. it's very relaxing.

At my town I can see many people wandering around while it is rainy season.People go out and enjoy cool temperature all day long but when it is raining then it is difficult going out because we might get caught with cold or we might get wet before reaching our offices. That might be a reason why people don't get out while it is raining pal!

Personally I Love the smell and sound of rain, and it is something that we should be Thankful for as well. It just is not fun to go out in when it is raining quite hard to where you get wet even with an umbrella, or when it is a Cold rain as well. But I know what you mean about people being afraid to get a little wet and not wanting to go out. But when you live here in the Seattle area like I do either you learn to get used to the rain, or you would have to spend a lot of time indoors.

I don't have an umbrella because I never hide from the rain. My hair style is very simple and wouldn't be ruined after the rain, I don't care if get wet...
I know many people with perfect hairstyle who hate to ruin the hairdo....
In the other hand the air is so pure and fresh when raining....

I actually took my kids out for a walk in the rain. It was a nice experience, a nice smoke to go along with it (non-cig) and I couldnt stop thinking the same thing the whole walk up. Now I do have to say it was a really light rain (tiny droplets) but we were walking in it for 20 mins no problem and to end our walk we went inside to Brew HaHa and it was nice and toasty, swear we dried up in 10 mins. The kids really enjoyed it and I did too but actually experiencing it was something unique, feeling every little droplet, I do normally take my kids out in their raincoats but I have to admit that you can feel a little cooky when your the ONLY ones out, but thats what Winter feels like too.

I don't know where you're from...but I bet it's somewhere far away from here (Philippines) since we're tropical and you guys have four seasons :D Anyway, the reason why many Filipinos would rather not go out in the rain is because we often get sick when we do. I guess the air is that dirty now - not just in the Philippines since rain clouds pass over various places before getting here.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I like the rain during the night time, because it helps me sleep better. While in the morning, we don't want to go out there in the rain, I might get pneumonia while I getting my body wet. Don't you ever think of that. We might enjoy watching the scene of rain, but not going out there enjoy been splash during the rain.

I've always had a fondness for the rain, mostly because I'm not too fond of the sun (I burn easily, and boy do I). Having grown up without air conditioning, I craved the cool breeze that comes with the rain in the summer time.
On top of this, living in a rather crowded city, it's nice to go out and not have a ton of people walking and driving around. I feel more in control of my situation when I'm not feeling crowded around.

I think people don't like getting wet in the rain, so do I:) I found it's very inconvenient to go out when it is raining outside. Even if you have an umbrella, but you may still get wet anyway. I had a joke before. When I was wet, I would become a mermaid:)
I love China

Hello,xParanoiax. As far as I am concernd, I prefer sunny day to rainy day whichever season. Because if it rains, the earth is wet and the road is dirty. I live in Zengcheng Guangzhou, there's many rainstorms. If there's a rainstorm, the road will be full of water, so you cannot walk on the street. If you walk in the rain, you will be soaked through. In spring and fall, I'll be in good mood if it's sunny, otherwise I'll fell blue.

I have never understood it, either. I will walk in the rain with no umbrella and enjoy it. When we were little we'd go out and play in the summer rain if there was no lightening, we'd sail boats made of newspaper in the gutters and puddles and stomp through the puddles. I don't mind the rain at all!
People in my country (the U.S.) are very phobic and want to "stay safe" to the point where they shield themselves from everything, including the rain.

because some people know that rain can affect their health. especially when people are those who always concerns with their health. Other people come out on the rain because they like it. they seems to feel refreshed when they are in the rain. especially children. For me that xis my opinion.

After raining, the air is absolutely clear and make people comfortable. Before i was responsing your discussion,i just went back from the outside and it had a shower.
I felt so cool as walking outside, cos the supermarket was really hot!I had to get rid of of the hot circumstance.
So a shower maybe ok,but the rainstrom is not a good idea truly:0

In fact, when I was in my childhood,I used to go out when it rained. But now,I rarely do like this.I am a Chinese. In China, people are not that good to express themselves. If they feel happy when it rains, they will smile quietly and just watch the beautiful scene outside their house. They do not want to show their feelings before other people. It is the traditional culture of China that matters. But now in China, more and more young people tends to express themselves in public,so I often see young people like me go out in the rain.Since you are in USA,things may different,I don't know the reason.Though I rarely go out in the rain now,I still think it is a good way to relax oneself fully.
