While I was shopping for Easter dinner I decided to make a couple of artichokes since it's been years since I've cooked them. I know my son is going to be surprised but I don't think his g/f or my hubby will even bother trying them. I think if you never tried them they don't look very appetizing. I come from an Italian family and grew up eating artichokes every so often and did the same thing when I brought my kids up. They all love them! I think my favorite part is the heart. Have you ever eaten an artichoke? Did you like it or not?

My grandmother used to make stuffed artichokes, I never liked them when I was younger but when I hit my teen years I loved them. I like the artichoke hearts that are marinaded but most of the time they are way too expensive to indulge in. If you are Italian and have never had stuffed artichokes then ask some of your older family members to make them, they are to die for if they are cooked right!

That is the way I make them...stuffed with bread crumbs and they are delicious!

you know, I have never purchased or cooked a fresh artichoke, I would not know where to begin. I have only had artichokes from a little jar - pickled artichoke hearts, and I am absolutely wild for them... but they are expensive and therefore a treat.

I love artichokes. I grew up on them. We lived in California and the artichokes were so big over there. I love the hearts. Those are the best parts. My favorite way is just to boil/Steam them and serve with lemon butter. I could eat 3 to 4 of them all by myself...it looks like alot, but when you get down to it...it's not. lol. just a lot of work but so worth it. I like the marinated hearts, too. In california there use to be this place that served fried artichoke hearts. they were soooo good. I live in KY and for some reason the artichokes here are poor looking. everytime i go to the grocery store, they look so pathetic. they're small, have dark spots, and expensive! I finally found an alternative, though. Kroger sells frozen artichoke hearts. They're $3 a package, so I don't get them very often since I'm the only one who'll eat them. I don't care for the canned ones, but they're good for making artichoke dip..which i love. I like them on pizza, salads, in lasagna....just anything with them is good. *sigh* now i'm hungry and want some. I'll have to wait til payday. lol.

I don't think I have ever tried them. I am one of those people that says I won't like it by looking at it. Aren't artichokes the ones that you can fry in butter and then they are unhealthy for you? I don't konw if I would even like them that way though I tried broccoli last week and yuck that stuff is gross.

In my country we have artichozes from spring to summer at very good prices. Like you, I grew up loving them. I eat them in many different ways. The easiest is just boiling them and eating it with our hands, dipping each leaf in mayo or a drssing (salt, oil, vinegar or lemon). But I also make a wonderful sauce for pasta and a heavenly quiche. The problem with the sauce and the quiche is that itĀ“takes some work to take the meal and processing it.
