I guess you guys can tell from the title that Dyna is still with us. Yesterday was too much of an emotional roller coaster for me to be able to post an update. After feeling so positive on Thursday she wasn't doing very well yesterday. She was down...didn't get up all day except to vomit a little bit here and there...exhausted from both being sick and the lack of sleep...not drinking on her own and didn't pee all day. She wasn't dehydrated though, I was certain of that, but I was afraid that she was getting too weak since she hadn't eaten since Monday. I had read online that you need to try to get some protein into a parvo pup after 4 or 5 days of not eating and one of the things they recommended that I happened to have on hand was a little bit of raw egg, so I tried that mixed with some of the electrolyte liquid but it didn't stay in for very long. I ended up giving her her stomach and antibiotics medication a little early and letting her sleep for about an hour at a time in between giving her fluids.
She had one incident of diarrhea late last night right on the sidewalk leading from my deck to the driveway. Full strength Clorox and the garden hose took care of that. The good news is that she seemed to perk up a little bit afterwards, started drinking water on her own again and seems to be feeling a little bit better today. She's still laying around but she's able to give me more of a hard time when it comes to using that syringe to get the electrolytes into her. I tried the raw egg and electrolyte mixture again earlier and it's stayed down for a couple of hours now. This morning her gums were nice and pink though but now they're looking a little pale and she's not drinking on her own again so it's back to the 15 minute fluid schedule again.
I think we're getting there but I'm scared to be too optimistic just yet.

Be optimistic! Positive thinking will help her, she knows how you feel.
What about putting a little yogurt into the syringe for protein, or see if she'll eat some cottage cheese. Raw egg could give her salmonella or upset her stomach. Beef or chicken broth? My dogs love it, she may be tempted, too. A little sandwich spread on her gums or tongue, she'll have to lick it off, that might work.
I'm pulling for her! She's so blessed to have a nurse like you!

Thanks for the advice. I was able to read the responses earlier but didn't have a chance to post. She's doing better now. In fact, she's even back to barking up a storm at the kids outside and bugging the cats!

HI spalladino I am sorry that your pet has to suffer from all this. How old is she? It all depends on your pet's strength. Is it the custom in your country to innoculate against parvio? In my country it is required to give rabies and parvo innoculations. I really wish you luck and hope that everything turns for the best

She's about 9 months old and a large dog so I think that helped her. I can see now how this virus kills young puppies...it strikes so hard. Dyna has had two of the series of four shots...we've only had her for two months...but the vet said she's not protected until after the fourth one. She's actually doing better now so thanks for the good wishes.

I'm so glad to see that she is still holding her own with your help. I know what you mean about being scared to be optimistic, I always expect the worst and hope for the best, that way I'm not disappointed. I hope she gets to her old self soon! Good luck and keep us up to date!

Hey spalladino, I feel like I am going through this with you.
I went through this with my X-bf and it was the same touch
and go. And the stronger puppies did make it! I know that
Dyna will too! She is a fighter! You are following all the
same things that are needed to be done, plus you had the help
of a real Vet! And you are keeping on top of it with only
one pup, he had about 10 or more dogs and pups to deal with!
I just want Dyna to know that her Aunty Opal is praying for
her big time! I am such a big animal person and I feel like
she is my girl too (if you don't mind sharing)! Here's my
email addy if you want to talk opal2626@yahoo.com I will be
here usually until the early morning hours because I have
insomnia! Shoot me an email if you are upset and I will respond
right away. My pms don't work on mylot!Take care of you and
Dyan! Hugs & Love, Opal/Leslie

I tried to email you the other night and it bounced. I just tried again so, if you don't get it, my email address is Grafx11011@aol.com. You and any of my other friends here on mylot can email me anytime.

Hang in there, the diarrhea may actually be a good sign, becasue it shows that what's going in has made it all the way through her to the other end. See if you can get her to eat a little plain rice, or rice cooked in broth, that may help.
I had a horrible scare with my own beloved dog this morning, it was BAD. Stay tuned for my discussion on it, suffice to say for now that I cried a LOT but she's still with me.

I think it was a good sign. Dyna is eating today and seems so much better.
I read your discussion about Maggie and responded. I know how scary that had to be for you! I will keep her in my prayers and send good thoughts your way.

Oh Spalladino, I so hope that Dyna makes it after all this, the poor thing; this is so unfair! You have done so well and handling this like an expert. It seems to be two steps forward and one step back doesn't it? If she is still keeping food down that is definitely a great sign and I sincerely pray that it's all still improving. I don't know what else to say except that I am still praying for her and that you should be commended for your love and dedication toward your pup. Best of luck, looking forward to your next post.
