According to the news that I read today, 10,000 steps a day can help to a healthy body and mind, reducing the risk of back pain and other chronic illness.
With today's world, I don't think people hardly walk that much anymore. We have cars and motorcycles to get to one place to another, elevators to the next floor and other technology that been created to make sure we got and do things faster. Maybe that's why we get sick easily. I guess we need to walk more now. Even not 10,000 steps a day, at least the most that we can get.

I make it a point to try and get out of the apt everyday for some errand and yes.. walk...don't have a car anyway. I'm sometimes amazed for instance with my super. He's the type that will take his car just to get a container of milk...he thinks the supermarkets are too far away...we're not talking miles here, but about four or five blocks. Also I live in an apt building that doesn't have an elevator so have to walk up or down the stairs, so you might say I get my bit of aerobics every time I use the stairs

If you can't walk 10,000 steps a day and find it hard to count your steps (it's easier when you have a step counter) then try to walk for at least 20 minutes a day. You can split that up to 10minutes each walk - but don't split it up to anything shorter than that because you wouldn't have had increased your heart rate for walking 1 minute, 20times in different times of the day :)
I try to meet this 20 minute rule as much as I could everyday :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

N95 can do that?! I only own an older Nokia type (where the MMS revolution begin~~~) It's classic but still useable, so I never thought of changing it.
I think I better get a step counter when I receive my salary this month. I find one on the net. It might be a bit costly due to the delivery cost.

Some will do this and feel great. Of course, there are alway those saying it is too much. You are right-we should all walk more.

@prinzcy Here we have many stairs that must be climbed daily. We get much of what is needed right there. It is popular here for some to walk in the local malls. This protects people from the weather and they can still walk all they need to walk.

I got a pedometer to see how close I came to making the 10,000 steps on a normal day - not even close! I'm kind of slack at it, but need to work on walking more. Since I work at a computer, it's hard to get that many steps in the few hours I have left after work.

Thx for responding
I know I don't walk 10,000 steps a day too (even without pedometer) Maybe you need to walk more at your work place too? Like get a book, put printer a bit far so you have to walk there to get the print result...ok, maybe that can't be done!

Well I also heard that 10,000 steps is a healthy to us. i just wish i could do the same but i hardly ever count how many steps do i get from walking here and there. Walking is a part of my daily routine from home to work and vice versa. There is thi machine that actually counts the steps it is attached on your waist and you just leave it there and it will count every time you walk. I even see once in a news that there is this company that attaches this machine on their waist to encourage their employees to reach the 10,000 steps required each day.

Hey, it is a piece of helpful information for me. Since i am getting fatter and fatter, i have been looking for ways to lose my weight. Since 10,000 steps a day does good to a healthy body and mind, i will try to do that. I can take a walk after super and walk till 10,000 steps. But how far will it be? Anyway i will find it out by myself.

I've never tried to hit the 10,000 step method. It seems so daunting.

I go to the gym every day for exercise and I'm pretty sure i get my 10,000 steps in. It is important and too many don't move their feet. So keep those feet walking and stay healthy.

Yes, the more we achieve, the less we benefit. Necessity is the mother of invention...but I suspect that we passed that line a long time ago.

I am trying to make 10000 steps a day but sometimes I can't manage to do it. I stay in the house where the floor area is very small and when I go out, I drive my car. To compensate on this, I just walk around the subdivision in the afternoon and take a brisk walk.

that is true exept for kids ages 6 and up they need to walk 15,000 and if you are trying to lose weight its 12,000 steps a day , the only way to keep count of your steps is with a pedomitor because you cant really count all your steps without one ,walking helps with a lot of things like depression, anger, also the ones you said there are more but i just cant remember them all

I have several different pedometers that I've either bought or gotten for free. I've tried using them just to see how many steps I walk in the average day. It's really hard to gauge from a pedometer the true amount of steps you take. I was surprised though at the number I saw after a day of using it.I am a teacher and on my feet all day, and walking around a lot. Even I had a hard time reaching 10,000 steps some days. Wearing a pedometer does make me more aware though and it makes me try to get more steps into my day to get closer to reaching that 10,000.
