Writing Gives No Money

In my opinion it is the profession which don't have any money. Take the example of mylot there are so many writers but they are writing only for making 10 dollar. They have to write lots for this small amount of money. It is the profession which don't have any good output. Only, its provide mental satisfaction to us. Otherwise there is no way of writing. I don't know why I am writer, I am writing only for my need. But I am unable to complete my need as well.

Hold on just a minute. Are you basing your assumptions about writing professionally upon the amounts that you earn for participating on MyLot? Because that's like comparing apples to space shuttles. There is a huge, huge, huge difference between pay-to-post sites like MyLot and writing professionally. Yes, MyLot pays you to write, but it's not a professional opportunity. It's a discussion community that happens to share revenue with its members. Of course you're not going to make enough writing here to pay your bills. I know plenty of published authors who have received advances of several thousand dollars for their novels. It's all a matter of finding the right home for what you've written, and being able to compete with other authors' submissions. It might not be easy, but it can definitely be financially rewarding if you're willing to listen to constructive criticism and constantly work to improve your skills.

Bravo! Too many new writers make the mistake of throwing a couple of comments around on a few paid-to-post sites and calling it freelance writing.

Uh, no. That's a hobby. Freelance writing is a profession.   ^_^% I write a bit for Associated Content and Helium. Even that's more of a hobby for me. If I was serious about writing for money I'd be focusing on writing fiction more than I am. Really, I'm writing for Helium just for the ego trip. XD

I earn a full-time income from my writing. I earn more than enough to pay my mortgage and all my bills. Other than the mortgage on my house, I have no other debts. I own my car and have two computers. I take a vacation abroad with my daughter every year. I don't have a husband, so the only income coming into my household is what I earn from writing. Who says writing doesn't pay well? I think there's plenty of money to be earned **IF** you're willing to learn about the industry properly and stay away from the low-paying options.

Well, this has been a very interesting, and hopefully helpful discussion for me to think about. I am vision impaired, and have to do all of my reading and entertainment (well, almost all of it), on the web. I don’t know where exactly to begin, but have made a request to 2 of you to be accepted into your circle of friends. If I am accepted, perhaps we can p.m. back and forth a bit and I can learn a bit from you folks. Thank you for your comments, and ideas. Now I just have to figure out how to get started. Have a great week. Classy Cat

Mylot is a joke for making money. I come here when I am bored or just feel like reading the stuff here. I do make money writing online but it isn't here. If you enjoy Mylot then post here. But don't do it to make money, it is much easier and quicker to do it for other sites.

I think that you have very unrealistic expectations of myLot. Writers make their living by publishing. I would say that it is more difficult to make a living from writing then other forms of work. As others have mentioned, successful writing has a lot to do with marketing. If you don't have a following with many sets of eyes reading what you write, then don't expect much payment in return. There is a lot of pressure on writers who write for a living. Often times the work environment isn't as structured as other work, so the onus is on the writer to motivate and manage themselves. Writers need connections. They need to be good at networking, meeting new people and self-promotion. If you are trying to earn your living by writing posts on myLot, then your in the wrong place. Most online work is viewed as labor and offers very low pay. Why haven't you created your own blog where you can share your writing with others? Use myLot as a source for gaining connections, building a reputation and for promoting yourself and your work. These are the greatest assets that myLot has to offer. As a bonus, you get to earn some extra cash while using these tools. As a writer, expect a lot of hard work that you will have to initiate and conduct for yourself. Don't expect that everything will just fall in your lap. Good luck.

Writing comments on MyLot is not a profession. It's a hobby. Of course you can't make a living from just networking on MyLot. That would be insane. It's not intended to be a sole source of income. Professional writers dont' find it difficult to earn plenty from their writing efforts. It all comes down to being willing to learn about the publishing industry and then submitting your writing to paying markets. It's as simple as that

I think writing gives us what money never could. I love my profession, whether or not I'm "poor" monetarily. I think I'm more intelligent than many of the people who make loads of it.

Writing is a good way to release one's emotion and thoughts. It is a good way to share one's ideas. If you wish to get serious money out of writing, then write for a leading magazine or newspaper. They pay well.

I think, you are being too fast in your approach to what you are saying. Earning money through writing is not that easy. Especially when no one knows you. Now, may I tell you, why you are earning some bucks here on MyLot? That's because, even other's have to do the same. They also have to do the same - earn some money. Do you or have you made a name for yourself in the field of writing. Honestly tell yourself, how many of your friends honestly know that you 'WRITE'. And yes, don't just write for $10. Look through the bigger perspective. Try to be known, and when you can accomplish that, $$$$$ will follow you. Mark my words.

I disagree that writing gives no money. It is hard work and to make the big dollars you need to write for private clients, but if you take time to develop your writing skills this is possible. I make over a hundred dollars a month from my writing activities and this will be rising as I do more blogging jobs for clients.

If you are referring to writing at Internet, I definitely believe there is scope for earning money. It comes at the comfort of sitting at your house and it comes across the globe, crossing national barriers. I write from India. I have earned about $680 in the last financial year through writing in Internet. That income is almost equivalent to my professional income per month (I am a simple home based self-employed person who does not love running around much), though the time I had spent to realize the earning is far far more than what I would spend in my regular profession otherwise to get the same income! But you see, doing my profession is a right brain activity whereas writing is a passion, that thrives on the left brain activity. The left brain has its own cravings and any outlet given to it is satisfying in a different way and any small returns it gets appears to be too pleasurable at times! Writing at professional websites cannot be compared with writing at Mylot. Here you write more for socializing and the fun of reading and commenting on the variety of topics people post here. For writing at professional sites, we can't be casual; we can't write in grammar-less, broken English; we can't write without some insight into the subjects we write about. You require some good writing credentials, some discipline and some seriousness which should be combined with the fun and pleasure of writing. It is not the case with writing in Mylot. When you get bored of writing seriously, you can always jump into Mylot and write casually. And for that you get paid in pennies! Not a bad proposition!

In my humble opininion there is a lot of money to be earned in writing profession. Perhaps you have to fully get exposure of the whole world out there making money day in and day out. Writing two-three lines in mylot you cannot expect that big amount of money. This is fun-doing. If you are knowledgeable about a specific niche and can write a lot on any given gopic on that niche, you can still earn a lot.

I think writers do make lots of money. I know it maybe superficial of me but look at authors like Dan Brown and J K Rowling. Or how about those bloggers that make it big? I guess anybody can be a writer but not everbody can be a good writer. It all depends if you are able to connect with your targeted audience on an emotional and thinking level. If you are to strike something with your readers, they will surely continue reading. I will admit that I am not a good writer. I am a reader, and I do enjoy participating in discussions that captures my attention, like this discussion did. I think that mylot not only provides opportunities for writers but also for readers to earn some money. Yes it may not be much, but in times like these I guess every cent counts.

Last year I made a $1000 from writing part-time on top of a full-time job. It may not be enough to consider giving up my full time job to write full time but it pays for my internet subscription, mobile phone and a couple of other monthly bills.

Writing is not a quick and easy way to make money, but I do know several freelance writers who regularly earn hundreds or thousands of dollars each month. They work at it as a business, and that is quite different from writing in myLot discussions or in paying forums. I make $1 each day, every day, month after month, from page views to my articles on a writing site. I also get upfront payments for each new article, that gives me an extra $100 each month. On top of that I can submit to writing assignments and get paid between $20 and $50 for each article that is accepted. There are other ways to make money from writing, but all of them require time and effort.

As with other forms of businesses writing can be a source of good income if among other things the work produced is good and marketed at the correct place. If this is not true then there would not have been great books produced by authors who are living comfortably with the income they receive. There are many reasons why a writer fails to make it. 1) Writing to the wrong audience/readers. 2) Unstructured writing, making it uninteresting or difficult to understand. 3) Following the masses instead of writing on what we are really good at. The list is longer but the three mentioned above seem to be the main reasons. all the best in fulfilling your needs, rosdimy

Writes do get paid. They might not be here but in other avenues they do get. There is a difference between full time writer and writer in forum like this. I do not define the writing here as the actual writing. Have you observed some of the writings here? They are incoherent and rambling. If you say I am writing here to get that $10 I would say a no. I am writing here for pleasure and to improve myself and make friends as well. Beside for the good out put one needs to provide good input as well.

As a source of income, the earnings are not enough to compensate for the mental and physical effort. Probably the minimum wage earners in fast food restaurant doing no-brain job earns more than many writers. Actually writing not only provide mental satisfaction. It teaches us many new knowledge too. Most writers will do some research before penning the article.

Writing include something just about earn money, feel the world, etc. But for me, when i find sth is special or have my own idea,i can`t resist the temptation to write down all my thinking. You can write sth just for yourselves, that may feel different.
