So, how political are you?

Okay, I realize that I am probably opening up an awful can of worms here. I had an issue come up a couple of weeks ago where I insulted someone close to me by referring to them as a democrat. I didn't view it as an insult at all, but they were LIVID. I consider myself to be independent. I think for myself, and make up my own mind. I don't let Rush Limbaugh, Tom Joyner or anyone else tell me how to think. (Yeah, I know I will get a little flack for that one ) If someone called me a republican it would make me scratch my head and wonder what they are basing it on, but I wouldn't find it particularily offensive. So my question to you myLotters is ---how seriously do you take your political affiliations?

"'Politics' is made up of two words, 'poli,' which is Greek for 'many,' and 'tics,' which are blood-sucking insects."
- Gore Vidal
I love this quote. Had to share it. This is one of many subjects that can get a persons blood to boil. I take my political views seriously. I also respect another persons right to do the same. Some people just get very angry, that's the time to change the topic. The Democratic Donkey and the Republican Elephant will be doing battle for decades to come. That won't change no matter which side of the fence you are on.

Thank you. Yours is a very healthy view of the situation. Too bad more people won't just feel passionately about their views and still respect others that do the same.
