i actually want to go sometime in Tondo but my parents won't allow me. i think most people, (including me to be honest), thinks that Tondo is a place of danger. i often hear bad news about it on TV.
once upon a time, Tondo was a place where heroes emerged but now... i don't know. what do you honestly think about it?

It's kind of sad that negative things like crime and danger are frequently associated with Tondo. Not all people from there are that bad. I think we shouldn't generalize things like that 'coz honestly, we are all good and bad in nature and being in Tondo or anywhere else wouldn't make much difference.

Nothing is safe in this world. Branding Tondo as a dangerous place is too stereotypical, just like how anyone may see Mindanao as a place of conflict. Tondo is just another place where people live. If one takes things with too much prejudice, they can't go anywhere. So, what's one supposed to do? Just take care wherever you go and be aware of your surroundings. Going to Tondo is just like going to Divisoria or Quiapo. Well, this is just my opinion since I've been to Tondo many times. One just really have to be careful anywhere.

Yeah Tondo nowadays has transformed into a very bad place now. This is the source of some criminal minds that became infamous over the years. I think the movies that portrayed Tondo did have some contributions as to what Tondo has become today. Now I think for most part of the place is still relatively peaceful but then it has been tainted as not a good place to stay in Manila.

To be honest, I have that notion when I hear that name. You can blame and the TV and movies who often featured Tondo as a place of danger and tough guys. But truth to tell, there is a little of that in every places.
I've never been in Tondo, but I have friends who live there who tells me that Tondo is just like any other place in the Philippines.

True. They say Tondo is a dangerous place. But for me, it is just dangerous because the some people there have no control nor sense of self discipline. I have been in Tondo a lot of times already. Visited a friend, took my ex home who temporarily lives with her grandparents (for safety), visited my mother's friend and others.
They say Tondo was not like that before. I don't know why it is like that now.

Tondo is a big area in Manila. I have lived there and not all areas are dangerous.A lot of my affluent classmates lives there and grew up with me.There are only some isolated areas just like in other places in the world.I have been to Lico Street, play along Bulacan and Batangas streets but nothing wrong happened.Your folks must be believing what you see in the movies of Rudy Fernandez and novels of Carlo Caparas. Those only happened in slum areas perhaps but even in those areas, people are very kind and hospitable..

I agree. My mom and her family grew up in Tondo. They never acted like the ones we see right now on Television. Even a lot of people there right now are very civilized and proper. Media has something to do with this, I guess.

My honest answer to your question would be like the others: Tondo is a rather scary place for those who haven't been there. I guess many movies and TV shows have stereotyped the place as a dangerous one filled with crimes and all that bad stuff.
But I've been there once and I found it filled nice and happy people (I attended a town fiesta there). I guess I can say that Tondo is filled with people that are tough on the outside but can also be warm and fuzzy inside. :)

when i was a kid, i see "Tondo, Manila" as a place where there are many criminals (holdupper, kidnapper, murderer, serial killer, people who had stayed in the Bilibid). as what i see and notice on movies and TV programs.
my perspective and outlook to Tondo later change after i had been to that place, i was very wrong that it was an unsafe place to even visit.
actually, we have a relative near Tondo, near the Port area.
i realized that it was not the way i thought of when i was a kid, though the environment is somewhat unhealthy, unsafe place to live, the people around there are also normal people who live peacefully.

Some 10 years ago I visited and stayed in Tondo. It was my maid who introduced me to her sister in law who was staying in this place. No knowing anything or anybody in Manila, I accepted the offer to stay in her house. She is an accountant and her house is quite nice and she is so wonderful lady. Tondo as what I remembered is a slump area and the people are to me quite good. Since my features are quite similar to a filipina, they couldn't differentiate and most of the time they thought I am one of them and speak to me in tagalog. I went to Manila last year but couldn't remember the place anymore. LOL

I came from Tondo. I myself live in Tondo for about 5 years I guess and now I move to Pasig because it is near to my workplace. What you said is quite true and it feels like you are not really safe when you go there alone. But I visit my family there every other week, I just make sure I will be there before noon and live there the next day at noon too, in order to avoid those bad people. Hoepfully, they can come up of one rules to lessen the crime there.

If you are going there just make sure that you know someone from there. People at Tondo are very warm and friendly, they just hate people who brags around. Actually, they hate people who judge them. I used to live there. Just always remember that Respect begets respect. Arnold Clavio came from Tondo. Look at him now...he's one of the best anchor person we have in the Country. There are also other famous personality who came from Tondo who are making names now. Hope this helps.

Everytime i hear Tondo and most especially Bangkusay, i always associate it with killing, fear and riot. But one day, i have to attend a christening because im one of the godmother and i cannot say no to it. And guess what, its in Bangkusay Tondo. But to my surprise, the place is nice, it doesn't look like squatters. Its like the streets in Sampaloc and other places in manila. Its quite and clean.

I know it's unfair for the people residing in TOndo but whenever I hear that, snatchers, gang wars and all kinds of crimes enter my mind.
But I have friend there and I know that it's not true. It's just that we are clouded with the idea we have seen on tv. Tondo is like any ordinary place.

According to many Filipinos, one of the most dangerous place in the Philippines is "Tondo" and i think it still live up to its name until now. The place is where snatchers, thief, etc..most criminals live..But i know our government is doing its best to solve these problem especially the innocent people who are living in Tondo. I know they want their place to free of danger and it think there are organizations and ngo's who are working in order to solved this long time problem.
