Wich is the Good Operating System?

Can anyone knows which is the good operating system for a simple desktop.I think open source os linux is better.What is your suggestion about my decision.

Having a simple desktop with lots of free licensed and working softwares, rather go with linux distros. I have been using UBUNTU since they have a lot of stuff in it and the thing there is its easy to install for they have a lot of repository archives available for installation. No license needed and hassle free for those Operating system you eventually need.
