first of all i want to wish everyone a happy blessed easter. when i was an older child first thing we did was open the front door & see if the easter bunny had left us flowers to wear to church. he always had left a corsage for my siser, mother & i. we always thought that was really neat. of course we knew my dad & ordered them but it was still a tradition. i still have the desire to open the door & see if there is flowers for me but it's been a very, very long time since there has been any. people don't wear flowers like they use to i guess. we always had new clothes to wear, all of us, everybody did. we always went to church & i don't do that anymore either. time changes alot of things. what kind of changes do y'all remember from childhood?

your mom's was probably nicer than a bought one. i don't think they even had prepackaged ones when i was growing up back in the olden days as my boys say when they refer to my childhood. lol. have a nice day.

Sometimes, I think we don't realize what a fairy-tale existence we lead as children! How truly blessed we really were, with close knit families & traditions that now we find "near and dear" to our hearts! What a lovely tradition your father created, and now you are blessed with those memories. Sadly, but seemingly, I think that the gift of flowers has lost the true meaning (even tho' I cherish them),times have changed, and I haven't! I truly feel, you should share this with your children...and you might just be delightfully surprised on EAster Sunday, to find a corsage on your doorstep!
As a child, we were "absentists"....we did not go to Church, as the nearest Church was 45 miles away, and we got our first car when I was 12! But, our home followed the true doctrine of the Catholic religion, and so each religious event was enshrined! I now am the pagan, as I matured, and whetted my appetite with other sects, I lost my faith in that religion, and even tho' there is an Anglican Church on this Island, I do not attend, as I just endorse my own feelings & love of the Lord!
What a truly delightful Easter Sunday morning, thank you for sharing, as it so warmed my heart, and conjured up many warm memories of Easter Sunday and my past!
True blessings to you & yours on this very special day! Hugs & Cheers!

If I could, I would send you flowers myself. My folks stayed together much longer, but should not have. Your dad still seems to have enjoyed his daughters. Clothes should not keep you out of church.

i can always count on you to be here for me. you know that is a great feeling, friend. i did not have an easy childhood my parents did not get along well at all & divorced when i was 16 & should have done it years before. thank goodness i do have some good memories of my childhood but i'm sad to say i have alot of bad ones to. my home church has outgrown me & that is sad to say. i don't even recognize the songs they sing. i still like the songs we sang when i was a child & went to a little co0untry church w/my grandmother. that's no excuse not to go but i don't have the clothes to keep up w/them either. i'm glad my message warmed your heart. it did mine to. need to think about the good things instead of the sad ones. hope u have a wonderful day. thanks so much for your sweet response.

Happy Easter to you too. I remember when I was a young girl I loved Easter too. We didn't have any traditions just going to church, getting a new Easter outfit, and Easter eggs galore, we would always have an Easter egg hunt. I miss those good old days.
Now that my children are grown, I don't even boil any eggs for Easter.
Oh yeah I forgot I would always get an Easter basket too.

What a wonderful thing for your Dad to do! That is so sweet. We had nothing like that tgrowing up. We did get new clothes. Usually a blazer jacket and a kilt. They were colour co ordsinated. So if there was red in the kilt then we got a red blazer etc. My sister and I had to dress alike whilst the eldest sister wore more adult clothes.
We went to Church and lunch was usually a leg of lamb with all the trimmings. If we were lucky then we received an Easrte Egg each in the afternoon. All very simple. Oh, I had to suffer the tortures of my long dark hair being put up in rags so that I would have curls for Easter. How I hated it as it was so hard to sleep with all of these rag bumps over my head. Thanks for the memories dear friend

Hi jo! Sounds like you had beautiful Easters. I used to wake up and go to sunrise services and when we were done there I would go home and find that the Easter Bunny had left a basket full of candy..lol..like I needed that..then my whole family would come over and we would have a huge Easter dinner and I would have Easter egg hunts with all my cousins and half siblings. I was so worn out by the end of the day that I would practically collapse on the couch. I loved Easter.

Hi jo..unfortunately I haven't had a large family for a very long time. Everyone was close when I was a child but it was short lived as when I was around 12 all that ended. I haven't had family in my life for so many years. I left when I was 16 and never went back. I guess that makes it 21 years I've been alone. I'm a pretty tough cookie though..lol..I do have my children.

Well, it is quite true that Easter has changed for a lot of people. I can remember many things from Easter myself growing up that are definately different than the way there are now. I know we always had a New outfit and got dressed up for Church and then usually had a nice dinner afterwards. But now a days you are lucky if you can afford anything New, and then most people are lucky if they can have that Traditional Ham, etc. for a big group of people due to expense as well.

It sounds like you had a wonderful relationship with your parents. I wish your boys would do this for you. Maybe a bouquet instead of a corsage. We did always get new clothes. Now I just break out my spring like stuff, which is old, but I only wear it occasionally. I hold on to all my good clothes and they do not really wear out.

happy easter too, anitquelady and to everyone.
our tradition here is not to eat meat. so from holy thursday until saturday, we don't eat meat. we only have fish and veggies. sometimes, we skip meals for fasting. then, we do the way of the cross then bisita iglesia which is visiting 9 churches (i am not sure if it's 9 or 7 - i forgot). then on early dawn of sunday, we all wake up to meet easter. usually, there's a presentation in some churches. a play on the resurrection of Jesus.
but then, as year goes by, most traditions are not practiced anymore. most people would go to places for vacation. i on the other hand was just at home. doing a little sacrifice of my own. lol.
