HOROSCOPES.. What does the Word of God say about it?

April 12, 2009 9:42am CST
I have often wondered who started horoscopes and why so many people I know believe in them. I was told that as a Christian it is against the principles and word of God as this is the work of mediums and witchcraft. I'd like to know what you guys think and should Christians pay attention to this? I've even heard that even reading them is bad as it fuels your selfishness and evil desires. I occasionally read my horoscope just for some amusement but I don’t know if it's right or wrong to do so? Any feedback is very much appreciated and welcomed. Thank you.

Among the Hindu horoscope is almost a must thing and this has multi function as it must be consulted before you undertake anything. Even marriages are settled only after the horoscope of the girl and the boy match or else marriage is not permissible. How this is taken among the Christian I am not sure. Now to speak about its reliability and authenticity I have layers of doubts. Personally i am against horoscope prediction. The people who prepare horoscope are not the most leaned ones. to tell the truth majority of them are fake. Besides your faith and trust on horoscope leads you to become superstitious as most fact there written are not true and none can predict the unseen. for me only the weak minds hold fast to horoscope.

Hi jellymonty. welcome to mylot. about Horoscope and being a christian, I believe that it is for our own safety not to read it. God alone knows us inside and out. and God alone knows whats in store for us in the future. If you think you cannot handle reading horoscope with out believing it, then just don't do so. It will not make or destroy you either if you dont read it. If you already have a personal relationship with our Good Lord Jesus, you need not worry what will happen tomorrow. I have no right to judge people who read horoscope. I also have no right to say if it's right or wrong. but the Bible clearly states it, that God hates fortune teller and everything about witch craft. so I guess it is for you to decide.Check the word of God.happy mylotting. and welcome!

There basically is nothing wrong with horoscopes. I don't particularly take them seriously, I usually read them more as fun, nothing else. Horoscopes and the whole astrology thing goes way back to ancient times, as far back as ancient Babylonian times--if it hadn't been for this early "science" astronomy, which is a real science that studies the universe, stars and how everything possibly began would never have existed...so we actually have the ancient "astrologers" to thank for the science of Astronomy. There are many Christians who do read horoscopes and also think nothing wrong about them. Many people who are into the metaphysical world that is astrologers, psychics, etc. actually tend to be very, very devote Christians....like the past psychics Jean Dixon ( a VERY devote Catholic) and Edgar Cayce.

My brother wake up its just another tool to keep people tuned to the ways of this world and away from God. You need to worship the lord more if you find nothing wrong with horoscopes for he clearly states in the Bible that we should stay away from this and those who practice this sinful act.

God never told about Horoscopes. It was made by human. It just a fun game. Our life doesn't depend on horoscopes. We just need a spirit and a lot of efforts to get better life. It is not good for a somebody to believe in horoscopes. I just believe to my god who gives me a real life. :D

I dont believe exactly what the horoscopes say for a sign, but I do believe that a person with a particular sign is going to common with those traits. I do read horoscopes just for entertainment but I do not base my whole day on what a passage said my day would be like. If you rely on your horoscope to tell you your fate, beware. General horoscopes are aimed towards a general audience, not to you. If there is anything negative, you can choose not to accept it. Statistically, people with positive attitudes get more of what they want out of life than people with negative ones. What you believe is more often than not what will happen to you. If you fear something with intensity, it will probably happen to you, because you are trying too hard to avoid it. That is called, a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you really want to accomplish something, you should be determined to make things work. You have a choice on whether or not to make what you read a reality for your life. Truth or lie is up to you to decide. They are good to pass the time if you are bored, and maybe for a good laugh, but don't trust your whole life to it.

Any responsible look at a single Christian belief should be based on what God says about that subject. All the words in the Bible are God's words. Therefore, to disbelieve or disobey them is to disbelieve or disobey God himself. I point this out first for when you see the word of God on this subject you will understand its from him and not from me. First nobody knows the future or can see the future but God himself, which is the first clue that horoscopes run against the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Fortune-tellers are tools of the devil. They fall under HEATHEN PRACTICES. The Bible records many pagan deities and practices that the Lord forbade.WITCHES,Sorcerers, etc are tools motivated by the evil one. Exodus 7:11--12,1 Samuel 28:7--25,Daniel 2:10 Palm readers some believe have the power to get some things right because the devil has applied this power because it runs against the teachings of the Word of God.

I don't recall hearing anything of that such but that is crazy now that you mention that. I mean, I do believe that horoscopes, or astrology more specifically, has many things to say about our own individual personalities, especially if you're looking at a full chart on yourself - Which I highly recommend, because simply looking at your "sun sign" alone is like having a Super Nintendo as the only game system you play in the 21st century, you need to look at the other signs in your chart. Numerology, astrology, science, and the bible I believe are all connected in one big crazy way.
