I had got some Hot cross buns and this morning decided to have them for breakfast, I had two for me and two for my husband. So I heated them up, and he said he wanted them split and margarined. Well I do not like margarine, so I put butter on mine. Then he calls me and says that they were too doughy. I guess because they were fresh from the bakery when I got them and not quite ready yet. And you cannot bake them further now that they were iced. I could have bought the more expensive kind but I am sort of cheap.
Well I wound up giving him toast and jam and eating four buns instead of two. I felt overly full, because I cannot throw things away. And then I go to church and sit for two hours. At least I ran there and ran back so got part of my exercise. So, if someone does not like something, do you eat it yourself because you do not like to see food wasted or do you throw it in the trash?

I would have been steamed. My daughter won't eat meat and the hint of it makes her push her food away. I make her leave the table because I'm not here to cater to somebody that exclusively.

What me upset was my husband had before not like hot cross buns, but this time he decided maybe we can buy two dozen. I was thinking of making them, but then I would have to buy all the candied fruit, etc. and they were on sale. So now I have to put them away until next year. Unless the family comes over.

Oh yes, making them does get expensive with everything you have to buy for them (candied fruit being the most expensive) so I don't blame you at all for buying them if they were on sale! I do the same. Any steps I can take to save some extra cash especially with a daughter, and another child on the way you bet I'll do it!

Book, I was having a bad day. Its not that I don't "cater" to my children, but sometimes there is no middle.

Honey, I gained the biggest portion of my weight because of my picky eating husband and him not eating things and since I hate to see waste I end up eating it. I have tried to change this this month since I am dieting and now I will fix very little and if doesn't eat it then not alot is wasted and if it is then the cat and mot me eats it..saves on cat food at times..

That is the problem. I am trying to lose weight because of my borderline diabetes, and yet it is in conflict with my budgetary concerns. I also am trying to introduce some healthy foods for my husband, but if I buy it in one person size, it would be too expensive and if I buy in two person sizes which is a little less or rather four person size, and that is perfect, I can only keep the food for so long. It makes it hard to keep it even with the Debbie Myers green bags.
As for cats, would not the cat prefer cat food instead of left over food that humans love? I cannot see buying extra food and having leftovers just for the cat. I thought they would like Friskies or stuff like that. Like we had a problem with our dog always begging at the table, and we never went and bought extra just for her.

No i wouldn't have thrown the hot cross buns in the garbage but would have put them in the fridge and had them the next day. i would also ash him what he wanted before buying them or just got them for my self. I eat a lot of left overs because I fix some things my family just doesn't want to eat or warm up them selves. I get tired of fixing just what my family wants so now I fix what I would like and they can fix their own. But I understand your husband has trouble fixing his own food.

Except that sometimes you buy the things as a treat and you cannot eat that much yourself. The hot cross buns were just made fresh and a little soggy, so I guess when Easter rolls around again, I will try to make them myself. I also have to be careful what I give my husband. He loves buns, regular white buns, but cannot have them as he no longer can hold them, and he loves white bread but it sticks to his teeth. So maybe I will get him to like pasta. Some of those small pastas would work. We had homemade macaroni and cheese and he kept wanting more.

He wanted the Hot Cross Buns, but I did not count on them not being just fresh from the oven. I saved them for the next day, and I will put them in the freezer.

Our microwave went on the blitz, so I have to warm the food in the oven or in the saucepan. It is not the same. So as soon as we pay for this large Tv set, my husband wanted for the bedroom, we will be looking for a new microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. I could get one of those "as seen on Tv," Turbo Flavor Wave" but do not know if they are any good.

I had some after church, but I cannot eat that many, so I put them in the freezer. And then I had some later, and when there was a concert, and we needed food for the concert, I sort of volunteered them. But not many liked them. I guess they are used to their own food.

I think that with my husband's health deteriorating, I might be alone in a couple of years, I will then have to get one of those cookbooks for couples or singles. unless I take in a boarder, but then he or she might not like my recipes either or be allergic to them. I used to get Tv dinners and I was good at making Chinese, but now I like Italian and how can one make Lasagna for one person

I also hate to throw things out, but I will put them away for later. It sometimes is hard to please, and I know you thought you were giving him a treat. Good job on running to and from church.

I do not know how much I lost by doing so. I did buy the hot cross buns in case we were going to have company.
Well they will be going into the freezer. I wonder how long they will keep.

I also doesn't like wasting food. Most times we put the food on the refrigerator and steam them next day and take it. I sometimes do eat food that I don't like. It is not possible to have food I like all the time because sometimes I like isn't like by another person and the favorite food of another person may be the food I doesn't like.

I try to make the food tastier, and I want variety, so even though I love pasta, I do not want it all the time. I am not that fond of rice or potatoes, but I will make stew or something that has to have rice with it, so it would be different. Now as for the bun situation, I do not like buns all the time, but I will buy them so when my husband wanted me to get some hot cross buns at Easter, I felt not the same boring white buns again. (I hate the crusty ones( and it was different. So when he did not want to eat any after we got home, I felt we wasted that money for nothing.

Hi suspenseful.. Yeah sometimes I do that. My boyfriend is so picky when it comes to food. Sometimes I prepare something he doesnt like that I ended up eating much that I can. His being choosy with food sometimes annoys me that I cant help not to nag him of the thought that there are people who are less fortunate having no choice to choose food or worse no food at all. And that sometimes works that he eat the food even if he doesnt like it

My husband has lost a lot of weight and also because he insists on not eating healthy. He prefers white bread, and the bought spaghetti sauce, sausages, etc. He hates beans. Now because he has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, he is losing his muscles. Ironically when we went to the dietician at the Als Center, they told me that he can eat all the stuff that I consider unhealthy, real sour cream, whole milk instead of 2 percent and whipping cream, lots of fatty cheese to get his weight up. Yes so all the food that is considered bad, I am supposed to give him.

I wish my husband was like that instead of being so fussy and on top of that he eats so slowly. And a couple of days ago we had shepherd's pie, he did not like that, and before that chili and it was not sloppy soupy enough for him. Now that he is sick, and I have to fed him, I sometimes think I would be better heating my food in the freezer.

The whole trouble is that those poor people do not get that food. Now if there was a donation bin with a freezer unit on our street, then we could take the food we do not like to there, put it in it, and then they could put it in a refrigerated van and take it to the Downhill Mission or whereever, but they do not.
I know that restaurants and stores often have donation bins, but for the ordinary family or couple, we can either put it in the freezer and eat it later, or eat it then even if we are full and even if we do not really want to see that food again.

I don't like to waste food either so I try to eat as much as I can without hurting myself:). If I know that the food can be put back in the ref and reheated and save for later, that would be my first option. In our hometown, there are lots of street children...so before, when I eat outside and have lots of extras on my plate, I'll pack them up and give them to the children. I'm pretty sure that my leftovers are cleaner than the ones they're scavenging in the trash.

I got myself a couple of glass containers and I put the food in there and will have it later on. Unfortunately the glass containers I got only work in the microwave and the fridge and freezer, not in the oven. So I guess the next time I get a little extra money or points, I will buy some pyrex.

It was all right. It was hot cross buns and buns are not like sweet breads, they are supposed to be moist and chewy.

Honestly if I were in your shoes I probably would have done the same thing as I was raised by the saying waste not want not. It is hard for me to throw things out too, and same with my hubby though! If I am REALLY full and can't finish something he finishes it for me and cleans my plate. He does the same for my daughter too! Around this house he is the human garbage lol. At first it used to hurt my feelings if someone didn't want something I had made, but after having my daughter, and dealing with her whole eating patterns through growth spirts I got used to it! It does still hurt once in a while if I make something extra special for example bake a birthday cake and she doesn't eat it, but I'm sure in time I will get used to that too!

I usually put the left overs in the freezer, but I do not like to have a lot of sweet buns on hand as when I am feeling blue, I will go and snack on them. I was feeling rather low last night because my husband was in one of his "you do not listen" actually I do, but I do not show the appropriate serious or miserable pay attention look on my face. So what I did was finish off those short bread cookies I had made.
That is why I do not like to keep sweet things that long and if someone does not like them after asking me to buy some at the store, well I hate waste.

That happened to me sometimes when I was married and it drove me nuts! Now that I'm single I can throw things away when I think of the calories but usually I'll save it, freeze it or something else. When my husband didn't like a chicken recipe I would try, he'd go get dinner at the saloon about 5 miles away--we lived way out in the desert then. But I didn't throw it away! While he was at work the next day I would take out the chicken and wash off all the spices or whatever was on or in it. Then I would make it into something else! I doubt he ever suspected he was eating what he rejected the night before.

The trouble is that sometimes my husband wants something so bad. Like one time he wanted me to make verenky (that is the Mennonite perogis only you stuff them with cottage cheese instead of potatoes) and he wanted me to put some bacon with them. Well the bacon was mostly meat, not that crisp and it did not work. And the dough was not that good. Now I cannot eat that stuff, so it lasted a long while.
And when he wanted those hot cross buns, well he was so insistent and bugged and bugged me to get some. He has done that when he wants chocolate bars as well. And usually when he wants, our grocery bill is a little high.

Hi,suspenseful, you are a so good wife.If my girl cooks something for me,no matter how it tastes,I will eat.My mom and my girl's mom are the kind of person like you. They are used to cooking themselves and they do not want to waste anything.I think this is because they have even been through the difficult time and they know the feeling of starvation,or maybe they just learn that from their mom and the behavior becomes a habit.

The day before I made Shepherd's Pie, that is sort of a stew with a mashed potato covering and he did not like that. I do not like that either, because I cannot eat that many potatoes and I sometimes feel if I make something that he can eat, but he refuses to, but what I cannot eat, I have to eat it later on because I hate to throw food away. I have never been close to starvation but my mother went through the war and my grandmother was not that much into money, so they were careful budgets and they never liked to see things wasted. It is only recently that I decided that it is best to throw some food away rather then pile on the weight.
