Like dextronix above, I collect stamps but not coins, except I squirrel away the current 50-state U.S. quarters series that is just now drawing to a close. Stamp- and coin-collecting are really similar because just about every country on Earth issues their own coins and currency, but I settled on stamps because the subject matter is more varied, and much more numerous. The standard stamp catalog takes 6 massive volumes to list them all. I like the intrinsic value that coins have, but that is not so great anymore, now that countries have stopped using gold and silver to mint their coins. Coins also stretch back much further in history than stamps, which just began in 1840. But coins always seemed more bulky, especially if your collection is extensive.
