Up to what age should Mums breast feed their babies?

What age do you think a mother should breast feed her baby? I have heard of a lot of Americans doing it when the child even reaches 3 years old.
I so disagree with this as I am sure this does make the baby too attached to a Mum and no pun meant.
I think 6 months is old enough. What do you think?

I would say one year, so the baby can get a lot of protection through his or her mothers milk. My oldest daughter was healthier than my youngest because I believe it is my oldest nursed longer. And my grandchildren is not as healthy as my daughters for they did not nurse at all. My youngest grandchild goes to the hospital all time. And also I stayed on a healthy diet & exercised too while pregnant & after birth too.

I think that when a child begins to eat baby food, around 4-6 months old, is long enough but up to a year is okay.
There was a mother here that got a ticket and had to go to court for nursing her 2 1/2 year old child--while she was talking on the cell phone and driving!! There is so much wrong with this, I can't even begin to list it.
