To the laptop users, do you use an external mouse?

I just got an external mouse but I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet. I can use the built in one fairly well but still find it inconvenient especially since I don't use my laptop that often and, thus, don't get much practice with it.

I also use a cordless mouse, a Logitech mini cordless mouse to be precised. It's easier and convenient. It's hard to use the touch pad; it just takes too much time and effort so an external mouse would be better to use. I like my cordless mouse and I'm having no difficulty with it.

Yes that is the common reason why they use an external mouse. The touchpad installed on the laptop is somewhat difficult for them to control. Many have hard time adjusting to it. Just like when the mouse was first introduced during those times. There seems to be resistance to the keyboard users back then but when the softwares started from using the mouse as a tool they slowly shifted to the use of mouse and everybody seemed to be so dependent to it now since most softwares uses the mouse already.

People feel better in their comfort zone.. plain and simple. I do "have" a small wireless external mouse for laptops by Microsoft but I rarely use it. When people make the switch to a laptop they don't give themselves enough time to deal with the new technology. It makes them uncomfortable and they have to revert back to something that is comfortable. This is the wrong way to go though. Give yourself some time. ALOT of practice and you will be almost as productive with your touchpad as you are your external mouse. Then you don't have to worry about the task of pulling your mouse out and trying to use it on your knee just because you haven't taken the time out to learn how to use the touchpad.
I say go for it.. after a short amount of time you will find that the doubletap of your finger gently on the touchpad is just as effective, and maybe more effective as a mouse on your knee.

In most cases, I use the external mouse. This is usually when I use my laptop for long term use, like one hour or more. But in some cases when I just use it for just a few minutes, I do not use the external mouse anymore. Most especially when I do not use a table where I cannot properly place my laptop.

You a usb supported mouse for a laptop. Yeah I have one and I am using when I need to do something very important in my laptop. I tried using the touch pad and I think I am good at it but it is not the same using a usb optical mouse. I much faster than using the touch pad of my laptop.

No,I prefer to use the mouse pad because I hate loose cables hanging around. I also minimize the use of the mouse pad by using the control keys.

I have a wireless mouse that I use. Unfortunately, the design of the touch/trackpads on laptops leave something to be desired. As long as laptops have that type of pad, I will continue to use the mouse.
I disagree that we should 'get used' to all new technologies. A good technology should be intuitive and user friendly. Anything less should be improved.
