I think one way to help your friends is to let them know the many disadvantages of smoking, how it ruins ones health and body. Explain to them that it is not the best way to keep a healthy body. I suggest that give them something they could read about the bad effects of smoking, if you are familiar with the magazine "How to Stop Smoking" that is the best magazine you could offer your friends and also make sure they read it, help explain the content of that magazine. In case you are not familiar with thae mag you can browse it in the internet at http://www.pphsda.com.ph i hope your friend will stop from smoking. Pray for them too coz it is an addiction and you know it is really hard to break one.

Hi there,
Unfortunately you can't just make someone quit smoking. It is a very powerful addiction and the only way possible to quit is a deep desire for that person to quit and a ton of willpower. I am a smoker and I have quit and gone back to it more times than I can count. I can't even possibly describe to you how very difficult it is to quit. Let's just say that it ranks right up there with heroin which is the strongest addiction there is. I have been cutting back in hopes of reaching a point where I can try to quit yet again. Even the cutting back is very difficult. What you can do to help your friends is don't enable them. Since you don't like the idea of smoking....don't let them smoke in your car or in your home. Ask them not to smoke around you. If they are good friends...they'll respect you and refrain.

Hello ajithlal. I have some friends who smoke, but they don't usually find it easy to quit smoking even if we friends have mentioned them of the bad sides from smoking. I have a good friend, whom I asked to stop smoking, but he said that he is happy with smoking and he does not care too much about his longevity. So what could I say to him? I just give up and keep quiet about this. Yet I still wish him to some day give it up for the sake of his health...

Hello ajith, your friend is your friend and you know him better than any body here. The fist thing would be to consider the fact if or not your friend has trust on you or faith and love for you. If the case is in affirmation you can easily make him quit his smoking.
This is motivation. But be careful, he could be your friend and if you say bluntly that he should quit smoking could hurt his persona. Hence do mot insist him incessantly. Anything that is too repetitive become a nuisance. He might get diverted. So slowly and steadily you present yourself in such way that it strikes his mind and conscience that by smoking he is ruining your health too.
This is called digressive motivation. Yo are not agitated outwardly and when he is smoking you are not protesting either. still there would be some sign that ignites and your friend get to it and one day he quits.
This might take considerably a longer time than usual.
