which is more closer ,the relationship between kids and mother's parents or father' parents,in fact the two relationship are same based on hereditary facotor ,but in our contry,China, the latter is more closer,because kid's surname is same to father and father's father ,so they belong to the family.kids call their father's father "yeye" and father's mother "nainai",but they call mother's father "laoye" and mother's mother "laolao". what about in you contry

Well,if we continue to live as a joint family,to say with the father's family,then good relationship will follow on the father's side.If we go as a single nucleus family,most probably,mother's relations will get close more.In India,in the state Tamilnadu,where I live,we call,mother side grand parents as Maamai and Maampa and with fathers side,Ayyamma and Ayyappa.Cheers!

It varies from family to family, certainly there is not hard and fast rule.
