My toddler son is 22 months old and he is gradually collecting quite a number of good quality picture books. I am so very delighted that he is developing a love for books. He doesn't like television nearly as much. He only has two disks at the moment but soon he will have a third called Brum, it is about a little car. I hope that his uncle will build him a nice little bookcase. I have seen one in a parenting magazine but it is really expensive. I am sure it would be quick and easy to make a book shelf for children's picture books.
Do your kid or kids prefer books or television?
Where do yo store your kid's books?
Has anyone hand made anything for your kid or kids?

W[i]ow..that is cool! I am sure that is very rare since a lot of our kids this time, prefer to watch TV rather than reading! You are lucky and I hope he will continue that...

Good for him.
Altho he might at one point decide to throw the books and watch TV, your trying to keep his love for books going, like the book case. I think it's great for kids to love books.

My younger son is 22 months old too and he likes picture books too. The only thing he loves to watch on TV is My Friends, Tigger and Pooh....besides the Hindi film songs...which he doesn't really watch but likes to listen and dance to the music.
I have the book on Brum and he just loves it.
When he was younger, we introduced him to books (we introduced our older son to books quite early too) and he just didn't seem interested. Infact, he would shut the book and go off playing with his cars and ball. lol..I was a bit worried there because I LOVE books and so does my older son and I felt this one was not a reader.
But imagine my surprise (a pleasant one) when he started picking up books and looking at it. Though he doesn't follow too many details in a story, he likes to look at the pictures and say what they are. If it's a Pooh bear book, he is better able to relate to the incidents and what is happening in the story.

I may say, this is a blessing for your little son! Because, books are the entangled form of God, according to Swami Vivekananda the great Indian Philosopher and Spiritual leader of world reputation! Without books, it is impossible to imagine this present civilization!
My kids, though elder than yours, prefer books and television equally. My kids' books ar stored in book-shelves and iron boxes.
Thanks for this nice posting Maxi and have a good day!

It is good to hear that your 22 month old likes books. Most toddlers prefer to mess around with books and watch TV. I hope he can read when he turns 2. The picture books can be kept in a stackable boxes. The collection will soon be more than the bookcase can contain. lol.

That is good. I bet you are proud! Television can be so mind numbing; especially with commercial breaks - urgh!!! I haven't had kids myself, but think that children can be encouraged to develop interactive activities like reading and creative play such as building blocks to make model houses, railways, gardens etc like "Lego" or "Meccano" by their parents. It is so important that if a couple decide to have offspring, that they can devote time to them, to give them a good upbringing.

That is very good. I heard that children get their passion for books from their parents. If they see their parents always glued on the TV, most likely they will love TV too. Parents always lead by example.
So I guess congratulations to you then!:-)

Hello Maximax, congratulation! "Morning shows the day' as the saying goes your kids interest also is a tale telling one. this is really strange that a baby of mere 22 months develops interest towards something the adults are allergic to sometime!!!!lol.
Hope he continues his interest...and you remain the proud mom.

My son is now 18 months old.I bought many intellectual joys and books for him.he never concerned about interest of them.In respect to the TV,he seems to find his own friend.sometimes he was also patient to read a book together with me.then I tried to help him to look for the interest from these usefull resourses.

that is amazing. reading to your child is so important and the younger they are when they fall in love with books the better. i don't know how old i was, maybe 13 or 14 when i fall head over heels for a great story. keep on reading to him

My granddaughter is also a book lover....when she is here we read tons of them....I have a special bookcase for her childrens' books...some are still from when her daddy was little...but before we go to sleep when she stays over the last thing we do is to read "Mickey's Alphabet Soup" or Serendipity......those are her two favorites!

This is a good thing. Reading stimulates the imagination more than watching TV does. I would have preferred to not have exposed my 2.5 yr old daughter to television at all. Anyway, she likes both, but she doesn't get to watch TV much, just a couple of times a week. I'm trying to subtly push her towards reading more. We keep her books in a bookcase, but we'll probably get a bigger one as the current one is running out of room (I'm a compulsive book buyer, but only at secondhand bookshops). My daughter has a lot of handmade things as I'm a big fan of DIY. I've made a hotsling, babylegs, door nameplate, door hanger, books, etc. :)

That's so sweet! true, many kids now would rather watch TV. So you have a little rare diamond there! I have a daughter and she likes both. I read from one parenting magazine that what you show your child to be important when they are in the formative years (1-4 years), that will stick with them. So if you pursue that natural interest, like switch off the TV when your child is with book, he will learn that there is a time to read and a time for TV.
Maybe even if he grows to like TV, books will still be his thing.
