Well, internet is connecting one computer to the world wide network of computers.Whereas intranet is connecting computers to a closed group. For example,a computerized bank has an intranet connection, connecting all the computers within the office and between the branches, through which the transactions take place.

I looked these words up in the online dictionary and I got the following definitions: Internet - A vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide (usually prec. by the). the internet includes commercial, educational, governmental, and other networks, all of which use the same set of communications protocols. Intranet - A computer network with restricted access, as within a company that uses software and protocols developed for the Internet.

The difference between internet and intranet is that through internet we can connect to the world. But through intranet, it is used to communicate on computers in a particular area for example computers linked in an office are through intranet for communications between them only i.e. linked only to each other.

Inernet is the one what we are using. Intranet is the one that is centric to the organisation only. Say, a Large company will have their own connection of all the networked computers that is called intranet. Intranet will work as internet.
