Just a shame that he couldn't lead by example and adopt a shelter dog instead of buying one from a breeder.

Yeah, last I heard he was getting one from a shelter. I guess he's just tightening up his belt like the rest of us and couldn't resist a free one from Ted Kennedy.
Like most of his appointed cabinet though he doesn't come without scandal, I hear Bo's sisters name is Splash. Maybe it's Teds way of always remembering Chappaquiddick?
He sure is a cute little thing though.

I'm actually confused about that part in the article...it says the pup was a gift from Sen. Kennedy...but then it says it belonged to a family who didn't want him anymore...did it go from that family to Kennedy to Obama? That's all a little odd to me.

It's a cute dog, but I really would have been happier if they had gotten a dog from a shelter or rescue. I understand though that with his daughters allergies, they have to be strict about which breed they get. And I'm sure there are not a ton of portuguese water dogs in shelters, but there are Rescues for generally every breed! I find it hard to believe they couldn't find a portuguese water dog one.
But since the puppy was unwanted by his previous owners, he could have very well ended up at a shelter if the Obama's had not adopted him.
