The Boss heard on the radio that a woman who had dyed her dark hair blonde - and it had turned GREEN - was advised to use tomato ketchup to restore her hair to her old dark self. Is that true? Ladies, do you reach for the tomato ketchup when your hair colour goes wonky?

No, but I think that it's the acidity in the ketchup that makes the color go back to normal. Not sure if that's true or not, but if it is it would seem anything acidic would work. Maybe even barf!

I had never heard of that solution before but it is a good thing to know..for just in case it happens to me or someone I know. I wonder if that would work with all colors? Because I do dye my hair occasionally but it is usually red and so far it has never turned green.."Becky knocks on wood"...lol I have heard that maybe peroxide helps some. But that is all I have heard.. so thanks for the tip and I will surely pass it on to those who need it..

Hey p1key! I have never heard of using tomatoe ketchup to fix
your hair! But, the again most normal people know that you
never try to dye your dark hair blonde without stripping it
first! You just can't go from dark to blonde! It is a very
special job to do that and any moron knows not to dare try!
So she may as well pour on the damn ketchup! It can't hurt
it it's already green!

I know that sometimes chlorine causes bleached hair to turn green. I had a friend in elementary that was not able to get a good school picture, because she had platinum hair, and whatever she wore reflected off her hair. So the day she wore blue her hair looked blue, and the day she wore green her hair looked green. Maybe a ketchup treatment would have helped in that instance. Calmed it down or something. I dyed my salt and pepper hair auburn, but my big gray/white streak turned fuchsia. I am too old for that look, so I used kitchen dish soap to tone it down. I think I would have been willing to use ketchup, and it might have looked fine.

Hair color? This lovely shade of "natural dark auburn" just grows out of my head like this. And if you believe that...

I'd never have to try such a thing. These lovely, sun-kissed highlights you see in my hair were placed there by the sun itself. Ummmm... yeah. *nod*

Ah p1key, your curiosity about the stuff women do just grows and grows, doesn't it? You must been a woman in one of your past lives, what with your penchant for face creams and the like. Personally, I think it's competely adorable, and I absolutely encourage you to continue in your quest to know the woman's mysteries. I find you to be the most charming of men and this is just another facet to your myriad and shining personality and self. So - sure, tomato juice could work on something like that - it's the acidic quality of it or something. Wait - I think it's got a lot to do with PH balance, p1key. Yup, that's it, it's PH balance. Ack, doesn't matter, not really, and let me assure you, I don't intend for that to happen to me when I re-color my own hair blonde again, which I'll be doing within the next week. Yikes, I can see it now. There's me, Skyping with green hair! Ha! Although when my mother sees it, I might just be dying it back to the original color. If she doesn't like it, I won't be able to live with her till I dye it back, she'll make sure of it. lol, funny, yes, but too true. Cross your fingers for me please. I like it blonde.,..I think it suits my color. And my rather "blonde" personality and quirkiness. Ok, I'm off subject like crazy and I'm sorry about that. See ya tomorrow. Love ya. xxx

That sounds horrible! But the acid in the ketchup (it's actually catsup but it's been perverted by Americans) must react with the dye. I don't dye my hair so I don't have to worry about it but it sounds logical to me. At least it's a cheap fix!

The acid is from the tomatoes. Catsup is nothing but pureed tomatoes with a few spices and maybe some herbs. Tomatoes are acidic so it might work on hair dyes!

My Aunt was still cutting my hair when she was 96! I don't think that she had heard of ketchup for curing green hair either. She did tell me that during WW2 she had to shave a poor woman's head because she had head lice and they (the woman not the lice) were bombed out and couldn't get anything to treat it with. Yuk! Now my head's itching. LOL.

good for her. i would still be working to if i could. health problems keep me from it. u are so funny. i couldn't help but laugh at the woman having to have her head shaved, it's not funny of course but i got a good laugh over it & your head itching. never ran into that problem but once in my career but that was one time too many. i just knew i was going to have them but thank goodness i didn't.
